WHICH LEAVES ME TO THINK ITS THE MONITOR
PRICED A NEW ONE UP THESE COST AROUNT £350 SO THOUGHT IT WOULD BE WORTH TRYING TO REPAIR

It will probably be cheaper to replace it. Electrical items such as this are often made in the Far East at very low prices and for a British technician to spend an hour or two dismantling it, repairing it and putting it back together can cost more than a new one.

Having said that, are you sure that the monitor is actually faulty? They are very reliable, have a long life and what you describe could easily be attributed to a loose or dirty connection. I think that the power cable will be separate from the data cable so the fact that it is receiving power proves nothing.

Take it to any firm that specialises in fitting reversing cameras, a Google search will find plenty of them, and ask them to do a simple check to see if the camera is actually receiving a signal. If it's not they can then start to examine the weak spots where the cable may be loose or dirty.

Before you do anything else, gently bend the pins in the plug (just a little bit) and plug it in.

I occasionally get this problem on mine and that fixes it. The more I have done it, the less it happens.

Is the screen lighting up? If it is (probably a grey screen) then it's almost certainly lack of a signal from the camera. Check out the back of the monitor to ensure the signal cable is connected. Note that some monitors can take 2 inputs, but only 1 is likely to be connected. You could try swopping the signal to the other input.

Check out the back of the camera - are both cables (power & signal) connected? Is there 12v on the power cable? Has a fuse blown? If that is all OK, then follow the signal cable back to the monitor looking for disconnected joints. Mine occasionaly fails as items in the external locker move around & knock the camera leads loose.

I fitted my own system, it cost about 50 squid total plus an afternoon's work.
