will my gas last?

we are going to france for 3 weeks, going to be wild camping almost all the time until we have to wash clothes etc, i have 2 no 13kg gas bottles and 3 6kg, do you think the 2 13kg would last using the fridge and water heater plus cooking or should i take them all.
I know it depends on lots of what ifs and amount of usage but just a general idea is all i want, any thoughts??

i am also going over to France in next 3 weeks,but i have a small 3kg bottle and no way of knowing if i can get same replacement(red bottle calor),is there an adapter i need in case the gas is different,thanks,

On your fridge and heater it should tell you consumption of gas eg 100g per hour.

If that appliance is used then a 6kg cylinder will give you 60 hours use ie 60 x100g = 6000g = 6kg.

It's better to put together a few "what if" scenarios rather than guessing or relying on other people's consumption. But if I did have to guess, then the 2 x 13kg should last 3 weeks.

No you cannot get calor but propane is easy to find as far as I know and an adaptor should be easy to get hold of ?
In Spain it is easy but not so sure about France .

sorry i think it's propane i have but in a red bottle,do i stilll need an adapter and if so which one do i get?

If you are going for 3 weeks only, the 2 x13 Kgs will be good enough. Infact just one 13Kgs is sufficent. One 13 Kg should last you atleast 4 to 6 weeks, depending your requirements. . If you have an empty before you get back, fill up in France, much cheaper. Enjoy your trip.

PS: Just noticed after posting that you come from just up the road from me. I am from Porthtowan.

Stick me neck out 26 kg of gas you will be fine....you will cook minimally I suspect if weather warm..you won't use on board heating.....I am not a betting man but 26 kgs when I worked in france last me 16 weeks

2x13kg propane is plenty to last 3 weeks in the summer, In france last summer for just over 2 weeks, still got gas left in 1x 13kg calor on return

13kg lasts us 30-35 nights,We use diesel heating, so there is not much difference between winter and summer with gas.

St day in July, we are going there tomorrow night and then on to perranporth for saturday night with the CCC dare i say. we should meet up somewhere for a bit of wild camping, Kernow pickles and myself have just been to colliford lake.

In two years we have bought two 12kg gas cylinders.
We always try to carry two 12kg bottles and tend to wild camp as often as possible.
Although we have diesel heating, the fridge runs off gas when wilding and we like to cook meals using the 3 gas rings and gas oven/grill.

I expect we have bought around 20 or more in the last 6 months !
As i said about 3 days in the hieght of winter but as most got their vans all tucked away then I guess they will never use it that fast ! lol

You've got to remember that your van is bigger than most stately homes, so that's why you use so much. :lol-053:

Mine is not one of those that are tucked away, but used as often as possible, even sometimes just for a couple of nights, as I don't like to keep the wheels still for too long. I am assuming you are full timing to use such an enormous amount of gas.

We are in carn brea village redruth, hope you can make our meet at St Day Star inn,, Deb and myself ate and stayed in the car park Friday night a great night and lovely food. we went to Perranporth for saturday night with the CCC stayed at tolgate very nice . where do you wild camp mostly we should meet up somewhere for a night and a beer.

I think you'll be absolutely fine with what you have. Really you will. But if you want a back up buy a cheap gas stove that works on the cheap gas canisters and buy half a dozen or so and stash them away. The plus being it gives you outdoor cooking if the weather is good. Just go and enjoy it!
