I was doing some route planning for the first part of our upcoming trip Calais to Bayonne. The first hurdle seems to be Rouen's low emission zone in our Crit'Air 4 motorhome. What a PITA it looks to negotiate the back roads to skirt around the zone.

Hayhiker and I have used a ferry over the Seine. At Duclair. This keeps you well clear of Rouen’s low emissions area.
And has the benefit of an aire by the cemetery, with drinking water and waste, before crossing.
I spent a great, quiet night there coming home. Being adjacent to a cemetery, there was no noise from the locals.

Sleep near a cemetery, are you joking. 😨

We often used to stop over down river at La Mailleraye-sur-Seine. Great Aire right on the river and lots of interesting boats and barges to see. Good stopover on the way down or on the way up and you can avoid Rouen completely that way.

I think our first night in France will either be there or the one to the west. 👍

Actually in hindsight be careful where you park there if this is a winter trip as I think its all grass. You might be better on the back row as I think it slopes down towards the main track. Some of the river side pitches slope towards the river. I found one though that had a patch of tarmac on it as I was worried about getting stuck even in September. Not sure how much rain they have had.

We just went online, registered for our crit-air sticker and then had no problems driving through Rouen. It cost just €4.20 inc postage. Last Jan on our way to Spain we stopped over in the centre, on an island in the river, for free (its on park 4 night). Makes our regular journey through France much easier.

Hi, ours is a crit air 4 motor home and we were given some useful information on this site.
We now apply for a day pass that allows us to go through Rouen on a specified day. You book it in advance upto a couple of weeks in advance.
Go onto the Metropole Rouen Normandie. You have to create an account. I do find it difficult each time I do it but so far have managed eventually.
By the way it is free.
We have gone around it several times, personally find it a pain. Much easier t go through Rouen.
Dont forget if you go on the short 3 euro section of motorway after Rouen which we always use as it saves alot of time there are now no toll booths so you have to create an account to pay automatically.
We are off on the 19th January to Dieppe but we will be booking our pass for Rouen at least a week in advance.
