Hi everyone,
We are after some advice.
We are selling one motorhome to buy another. The company we are buying from have offered us a low price and advised to sell privately.
Any advice on where to try and sell it? Any thoughts on what to look out for in terms of scams? How to keep ourselves safe?
Many thanks
Tina

I sold mine on Facebook marketplace that way I could look at the profiles of interested parties and vet who I invited pto come and look at it I found easy I also went to the bank with the buyer while they transferred the money and then handed over the keys

Hi Tina, if you search this site via the magnifying glass on the green panel above for "selling" (titles only) or "Motorhome depot" (titles only) you'll quickly see some relevant and recent threads that will help.

Another vote for Facebook Market place.

If you are familiar with it then fine, if not some things to take note of.

As Annie says you can vet potential buyers profiles. This will let you see if they appear genuine or not before responding to them. If they seem to have no posts or look remotely dodgy don't respond. Don't give out your telephone number and do it all by facebook direct message if you do respond. Ignore any requests that just say "Phone number".

Be totally honest. List the positives and any faults in detail.

I sold my last van in 24 hours on there.

Is the market still strong in the UK?
I am struggling with either importing my Hymer Eriba into France or selling in the UK where it is based? Then buying again in France.
2006 year and good condition etc .

Any observations appreciated

I had a £68k-in-a-dealers-forecourt motorhome with faults that the manufacturer should have never built in the first place (all of that model suffers), should have recalled them all for repairs but they charged me £1300 and went to some pains to point out what a favour they were doing for me. They did the job, I drove it home and the next day I found that it had the same fault I had taken it to the manufacturer to fix. (The side walls had cracks in them). There was no point going back to the manufacturer, obviously the model has in-built un-fixable design faults.
So obviously I wanted rid of it ASAP but I didn't want to make any false claims to the buyer. I got Motorhome Depot to sell it, and I never met the buyer, I didn't make any false claims nor was I guilty of withholding any information.
I had been offered £47k by a couple of dealers and when Motorhome Depot sold it I got £50k. Suppose Motorhome Depot got £55k from the buyer. The buyer saved over £10k from what he would have paid at a dealer and I got £3k more than I would have got from a dealer, and more importantly I got rid of a heap of carp and I will never ever buy another new model from that company.

Anyway to answer the OP's question, I would recommend Motorhome Depot as a good balance between the rubbish price the dealer will give you, and the peace of mind that you get from not being responsible for any defects that it might have, or indeed that the buyer might think it has.
I know for a fact from my experience that there is a £15k gap between what a dealer will sell for and what they will give you for the exact same make, model and year motorhome.

Sold a Hymer through gumtree in 2 days. After 40 years motorhome ownership I don't have any faith in any dealers, or the so called depots. Always sold privately, as I have said before most of todays businesses are based upon peoples laziness. And we are getting lazier by the minute, so more successful busines opportunity awaits.......
