Scarborough Sea Front Update

It seemed to be a problem, after covid lockdown.
People were buying cheap vans, knowing nothing of rules of wild camping.
It only takes one photo of some idiot dropping his elsan into a roadside drain.
Perhaps the council should put up advisory signs, suggesting what not to do, when camping off grid..?
I know I'm a cockeyed optimist.🫩
 
Problem is you can put up as much signage as you like, but after dark someone with a cassete full of $- one t is sure to sneek out and dump it, cameras may be a thing to catch and fine those how do so.
 
On Marine Drive I would think it would be quite easy to sort out if they have the will. Limited MH only designated bays spaced well apart along the length of Marine Drive to stop congregating, limit length of stay to 48hrs with no return within 7days, no camping related activities inc dropping water, canopies, tents, chairs etc, and no trailers. £200 fine for any single breach of rules.
The last time MHs were on there it simply got ridiculous with the amount and what was taking place.

Whilst we`re on the subject ................................................................................

There`s a fantastic place at the end of Yeadon Way ( continuation of M55 ) Blackpool where a decent sized aire that would rival Honfleur could be set up.

It`s HUGE car parks with the entrance from the roundabout where the stand alone Morrisons fuel station is that very very rarely gets used if at all that has all the infrastructure ( water, sewage and electric ) already in place from when it was buildings etc. etc.

It would be so simple to incorperate a bus stop there as well so you could leave the motorhome on the aire behind a barrier and either bus, taxi or walk into Blackpool but it will never happen because too many councillers have too many fingers in the local B&B`s / Guesthouses.

I know all the usual suspects are going to come on have a go and knock the hell out of Blackpool but there are an awful lot of people still like it.

IMHO the council is missing out on what could be a very lucrative venture which they would benefit from including the larger areas of Cleveleys, Fleetwood, Lytham St. Annes and Lytham.

Lots and lots of local businesses would also benefit so they could keep trading and paying their rates.

There are loads of places like that. Bridlington Park and Ride comes to mind. Its absolutely massive but empty at night. The grass has an all weather underlay on it and its barrier controlled to get in and out. How hard would it be to put in an Elsan point and 30 motorhomes only spaces?

Park and rides are perfect. Already buses in place, barriers in place, waste etc. For a working brilliant example look no further than Canterbury park and ride. Salcombes park and ride though doesn't even allow motorhomes to park there in the flipping day let alone at night!

Bridlington below and thats just one section of it.

Just had a look at that it is a big car park never been that way myself, Fleetwood's old port car park would make them some money it's been derelict for years. They have been making plenty from central car park which sadly for me is always full these days 🤣 As for scarborough we gave it a go after many years of not going because of the motorhome hate but then they banned the vans again. But what we did notice was lots of indian families with big tents set up along the grass behind the parking having fires and bbq.
 
The problem at Blackpool are the B&B and Guesthouse owners, there`s hundreds of them.

There is one CAMC club which is only a few minutes from where we live and truth be told it`s in a god damned bloody awful place on Cropper Road.

There`s bugger all there, no public transport, no shops no nothing not even a footpath on Cropper Road itself which is a tiny lane and a shortcut for locals who drive along it at breakneck speed despite there being traffic calming islands in place with alternate rights of way, they drive with the principle that is " up yours pal first come first served "

It`s that bloody dangerous we`ve stopped using it.

Where the hell are people supposed to walk safely, it`s almost as if they didn`t want it.

No privately owned one and the other 2 are CM club and the CCclub there are a lot of small 5 van sites up and down but I think mostly the reason for the original ban was behaviour, long stayers and bad behaviour plus turning the grassy area into what looked like encampments with fire pits bbqs and gazebos and staying for weeks.
