WOT WHISKY

Craft beer ! Dreadful marketing dept phrase .
When I was still drinking beer (hardly ever now) I tried and enjoyed many different ones . I also made a point of stocking beers from the smaller breweries . But honestly just because the brewery is small doesn't guarantee the beer will be better.
Same process different scale
I never said it was better.....

BUT just because the scale is bigger doesn't guarantee that it's better either.

I just prefer variety and character rather than mass produced bland.

during last august meet at the jimmies i’d persuaded the bar chairman to stock some real ale he came up with two barrels of landlords this had all gone by the sunday he hoped it would carry over till the next weekend
s music festival of course he hadn’t counted on rob lol, the ska meet started with a barrel of two hoots on tap and they had a promotion on a sticker for every pint and a free pint when card was full country the one on tap 6 barrels gone by the monday !!!! , as far as craft beers go the modern brewers have refined the science of production and most beers can be called bland but also we rarely get the off barrel and the same can be said for wine , i don’t like porter or stout so cant stand quiness in spite of my irish heritage like the sweet whiskeys not the smokey peat ones and any red less than 13% doesn’t even get opened lol the world would be really boring if we all had the same taste in drinks humour comedy music etc

I'm a sucker for dark ales/porter/stout....

Especially in the winter.
Black lurcher from Abbey Dale... Is one of my particular faves...
When you can get it.

One of My local breweries (now sadly closed) "tickety brew"
Used to do a lovely dark chocolate star anise porter...
I used to pay £80 for a 72 pinter.

I like Scapa 1993 but its now over £400 per bottle or Glenburgie 10yr old bottled in 1999 but again it will not be cheap - around £200. But you should be able to get a Glenburgie Distillery Edition for a much more modest sum and the taste is 'nearly' as good but the aftertaste slightly less so.
For a pleasant everyday whisky try Cardhu Gold Reserve - about £45 per bottle but on offer at Amazon presently for £27.50 so buy 1/2 doz bottles !

Really think bland is the wrong word . Landlord is , for me , a great balance of flavours . Subtle perhaps , certainly not in your face bitter or sweet etc.
This is why I think it's one of the great English ales
Russell Sharp at Caley brewery , if I remember correctly, modelled Deuchars IPA on Landlord

Laphroaig whisky in any of it's forms is my go to.

Paul[jenny] and I emptied a bottle of Giant Jack whisky at the Will O'Nats pub a few years back. We only intended having the one as last orders had just been called - we didn't leave till the early hours of the morning!
It must be rare as hens teeth because I've never been able to find it since. One of the few whisky's that gives Laphroaig a run for it's money for it's peatiness.

I do like Irish Whiskey Trev. In the pandemic I did a lot of work for some old colleagues helping them set stuff up from home. I wouldn't take any money so they kept sending me cases of Jamesons. I like Paddy and Powers also. I generally just drink the cheap rough stuff from Tescos though. I drink it like pop so good stuff is a waste. That sounds worse than it is. I only ever have the one with some Rituel chasers. :ROFLMAO:

If that suits, I have a suggestion. Get to Aldi and get some of this. You don't have to drink the rough stuff. This is our drunking Whisky, we go to Penderyn, Talisker or Jura for drinking Whisky. But we do taste quite a few. We look for the Clubcard prices at Tesco and as my lady works for Booker (part of Tesco) she gets 20% off for the four days around payday. But from Monday next week, we get 20% up till Christmas. That is on everything in store, except clothing, she gets 25% on that!

Did you mean to put a link in there? I do remember getting some half decent Whisky from Aldi once or twice but we don't have an Aldi store anywhere near us unfortunately. Actually now you mention it I have to go to Catterick today and I think they have one. Might have a look.

Definitely +1 for their Glen Marnoch (£18)

And their Cassario spiced rum (£15)

Coffee chocolate stout is lovely too

I did! Bloody phone rang and I just posted! Love this getting old 😂 😂 But @mistericeman has done the deed... (y)

Laphroag.

The Queen of Islay malts.

I own 1 Sq foot of boggy land , outside the distillery.

Every year the give me a miniature to drink a dram on my plot.
Wearing size 12 wellingtons.

It's 12 years since I last went.
Anyone want to offer me a lift ?

Well I have tried the Glen Marnoch which I have now renamed Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols). Lets see what music it produces. :D

Seemed ok. Not sure yet. A trial snifter is not enough really.

Right! I've got stuck into the Glen Matlock from The Aldi and its not bad. So far it seems to have produced some excellent bass lines. A bit freaky in fact. However its done nothing for my vocals. Only diesel will work for them I think.

Compared to a decent pint of craft beer.... Yes tasteless...

It's just mass produced pap... Don't get me wrong....
I understand WHY some folks drink it... It's a safe bet
BUT there are som many cracking pints out there from our small independent breweries...
Even Wetherspoons carry a cracking range (of incredibly well priced) real ales...

It's just a shame some folks are frightened to try them.

I like a real ale as much as the best man, certainly not scared of them. But when I go out it's generally for 12 hours in the pub. If I drank the so called craft beers for that long every time I go out I'd be dead by now.

I know several CAMRA men who appreciate real ales/craft beers whatever you want to call them, but they still rate TT Landlord highly and it's certainly not 'Pap' in their eyes.
