I lost a gold ring whilst visiting Helmsley.
I visited every shop etc we had visited; joined all the local facebook groups and even contacted the Police .... no joy.
About 3 years later I was looking for something in the under bed locker and there it was in my "useful things box".
Years ago I took out an old washbasin for elderly lady, she asked me "where does that overflow hole in the back of the basin go to?" I explained that it drained back into the main waste at the bottom of the basin and asked why she wanted to know. Her wedding ring had mysteriously gone missing forty years previously and suspected her very young daughter (at the time) had picked the ring up and posted it into the overflow slot.
We took the basin to the skip and broke it open and among the stinky goop around the waste there it was! Because it was gold it only needed a quick wipe and it shone like new. She burst into tears when I handed it to her.
