As we made the mistake of buying a Rimor we are currently sitting at 6000 feet all on our own in the Pyrenees with a water leak.
We think we can bodge it to travel, but need to get somewhere to buy a straight 12mm

push-fit connecter to replace the elbow one in the photo.

We have bodged it with a jubilee clip but as the blue pipe has nothing inside it to support the jubilee clip it is only a temporary measure.

So, my questions are:

  1. What sort of shop/establishment would stock a push-fit connecter?
  2. What should we be asking for?
  3. Anyone know of such an establishment near Aragnouet, France? We are travelling west to east but weren't intending to get near Perpignan for another week.

Look around the van for pens etc, they MAY fit in the blue tube and support it (cut down obviously)
Spot on Boris! I went to one of my may-be-useful stashes, and found the very thing.

The inner plunger from this syringe was a very neat fit inside the blue tube. Jubilee clips (overkill) have been tightened and all tested OK. 👍🏻
Let's hope it lasts longer than the previous attempt (36 hours).

I will amend our route to take in a Brico Dépôt and see if we can find the correct kit.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Leroy Merlin stock these but your nearest is Pau.

Thank you but we don't really want to have to go that far in the wrong direction.

There is a Brico Dépôt in Odos but I don't know what to search for on their site to see if they have anything to suit. How did you find these?

You are looking for ...........

Raccord Tout Push jonction droite 12mm

as per

I don't think you will find one in any Bricomarche as small 12mm fittings are relatively rare in France as I found out in Italy!!

Your best bet will be a caravan/motorhome dealer, but I can't see any online if you are heading towards Perpignan until you get there, unless you can divert to Tarbes where there are a couple of dealrrs.

Further update .........😂

They show what you need in 12mm ref: 028150

Forget the above part number, now I've looked at your "bodge" photo, a straight 12mm push fit won't work, better to get the same replacement part 028155 .......

Thanks for this. We are happy to divert to Tarbes. I think these guys may be our best bet.

Who knows, maybe the bodge will stay the course, but we've more than 3 weeks to go before we're due home, so we'd rather be safe.
Thanks for your help.

I hope you find the fitting, but your makeshift repair will do you good until then, (having a supply of syringes for emergencies, not something I've considered!) so panic over! My experience of getting parts/fitting in France after having a holiday home their for 3 yrs is generally poor and expensive if available at all. unlike the UK where it's a doddle Bon Chance.

There is a 15mm to 12mm reducer coupling but what we really want is the equivalent to the elbow, but straight (if you see what I mean). We are going to take a handful of bits in with us to enquire.

The dealer who 'fixed' it put in a 90° elbow, problem is it leaked a year later. I keep wondering if the air pressure had anything to do with it as we've been up and down mountains for the last week.

Here's hoping.🤞
I keep syringes (without needles) in the van primarily to wash dogs eyes if they get hay seeds or grasses in them. I'm a total squirrel.

Turn off your waterpump switch while driving in case the joint pulls apart and you lose all your water and maybe your running dry water pump.
Also turn off pump when heating domestic water, pressure rises with heat.

We have already had leaks before and try to only switch the pump on when we need it, but we may have got a bit lazy of late.
I'm glad you mentioned pressure with heat. The last Failure was after heating had been on for a hour in the morning. We are currently at 6000 feet and I wondered if this makes a difference.
