This years Epic Summer trip

It truly is a spectacular Chateaux. Can't look around it inside until tomorrow though as being France its shut on a Monday. Looks like we timed it well as there has clearly been some big event on over the weekend with hundreds of Marquees and tents everywhere. Looks like they are packing up today. Even the overspill area is filling up now. There is actually a much better area about 400 metres further on from the Aire further back with lots of Grass. Two vans have it to themselves but I can't be bothered to move as we are heading north tomorrow after a look around the Chateaux.

Went to Benoit as well up the road. Nothing there. Dead as a doornail. :D I did get some 30 month aged Comte though so there is that.

Tomorrow afternoon we will head up to La Mailleraye-sur-Seine for a night. Nothing to do there apart from watch boats but its halfway up. Then we will have four nights around Cap Griz Nez area at a couple of Aires I know and then England!

Just one question. Why is the Loire Valley called a Valley? Its as flat as a pancake.

Yeah I think its a con. :D I remember when we first came her yonks ago thinking that. I was expecting proper deep Valleys with castles on the tops or by the river. Bit more like the Dordogne really but its not, its like Norfolk!
 
When we lived in Paris years back we promised to take our very young children to the Loire Valley for a weekend. When we got there the kids refused to accept we had arrived because they couldn’t see a valley. It’s been a running joke in our family ever since, despite the kids now being in their forties.
 
Bright and early (10am) :D We did the Chateaux visit. As I suspected with a lot of French Chateaux and other castles in France etc they are much better appreciated from the outside than inside. I reckon its because the peasants in the French revolution trashed everything of value in them or nicked it. :D Some of the stuff in this one was only put in place in 2007! Quite sparsely furnished and frankly slung together. The best bit which was the living quarters was actually fairly modern as most of it burnt down in 1918. I upset a fellow Brit motorhomer who excitedly came over to tell me how fantastic it was when I disagreed and said I though it was a bit crap. :LOL: He got more upset when the roofing work he was admiring where he pointed out how preserved it was when I told him it was fairly recent. :D

This afternoon was a tedious and extremely boring 174 miles up to La Maileraye sur Seine. We used to come here a fair bit on the way up or down but its ten years since were were here. The wateside bushes etc have grown a fair bit so the views are not as good as I remember them. Will see what the village has to offer shortly.

Thats the complaining done for today. Cap Griz Nez area tomorrow. :D

Some NT & NTS houses are bit crap inside, but some are really good, we stopped being members when I found they didn't cater for disabled people very well.
 
I'm with you, I'd rather see architecture and gardens than reproduction furniture. We also like la Mailleray sur Seine, it's handy for the vet and there are two good boulangeries.

I should start my French thread ...
 
Stopped at La Maileraye sur Seine June this year enroute to the tunnel. We popes to stay at the municipal site as the aire at the river edge was rammed, along with what looked like large chip van with dodgy looking fighting type dogs. Municipal site is negligible dearer, but what a bang you get for your money. Large private bays, ehu, great showers & toilets , along with sinks for dish washing.

Didn't even know there was a site. Loads of space here tonight and its just one night. Will be off early in the morning.

Was the large chip van still there, was parked next to the steps that take you up to the old church?

As for municipal site, for future reference, through the woods behind the water treatment plant. Large plots and private.

Dave, parked at an angle with our only door opening towards the hedge corner, giving us that tad more privacy when sitting out. Our van is 7 metre, this gives you an idea of bay dimensions when you can manoeuvre the way I did.

The wine came later 🍷
