They didn’t mention the honesty box. With twenty vans staying overnight there was only £25 in the honesty box![]()
Someone to knock on the van doors asking for. fiver instead of the honesty box would do it. Wonder if a few full timers known to staff up there could organise such a thing between them? That’s 3/4 of those vans - 15 vans - who didn’t bother paying.
They’re dishonest p*sstakers - you can add entitled and ignorant to the description - and definitely not a “minority” here either!
Trouble is, introduction of more regulated payment facilities will cost more to install, but it’s obviously needed here and more than likely everywhere else where there are existing honesty boxes.![]()

I hate agreeing Marie, but you only have to look at what’s going on in our world to agree with your summation. There are people out there fighting our just cause, whilst morons behave like this amongst us. Possibly it’s time for some kind of certification scheme, I don’t know. It's a nice idea, Neil. Those who don't want to pay would probably lie about it and say they'd already done so. Human nature and all that jazz. You'd be surprised at the people who try and get out of paying, they're not always those with the least money, but quite often those who can damn well afford it!
Would need a bit of thinking through, but anything done on a voluntary basis is always liable to be pretty hit and miss![]()

Marie, there are inconsiderate car drivers, dog walkers, cyclists, fishermen, hill walkers, and others, yet they never seem to suffer the way we do. I will always stand up for our rights, but when you read stuff like this it makes me wonder why I bother.I'm not sure how a certification scheme would work, but open minded about it?
Something needs to change, else campervans will just continue being banned from more and more places where banning and/or barriers is the easiest and cheapest option for the local authorities in a specific area to deal with anti-social behaviour. Because that's basically what it is.
It's already been happening for some time now (since the pandemic et al) and will only continue getting worse over time. When people regularly behave like inconsiderate, selfish twonks, then banning and/or regulation/legislation will inevitably follow at some point down the line.

I am in no way condoning what goes on, but if we had less pressure in certain places with more places available things would surely be better. I feel that to some extent we are kettled into situations like this, and things have to change. But up here our government is aware of what’s going on and are taking a pragmatic approach, not the reactionary approach we see all over the U.K. from certain councils.
OMG Ral .................................................................... how could you incite such violence and hatred on that levelWe can't blame the car visitors this time. When they say campervans, I assume that includes mh's too?
Shame on them.
But what to do?
Confront them?
Shout hurty words at them and get arrested?
Answers on a postcard please.
What do you have against New Zealand Graham.OMG Ral .................................................................... how could you incite such violence and hatred on that level![]()

I think you should be deported to the other side of the world, not Australia that`s already full of our criminals but say New Zealand that`s far enough![]()
We carry a pack of envelopes in the glove box ...I dislike honesty boxes simply because they encourage a sizeable minority to decide not to pay, whether it be giving themselves a free parkup or even helping themselves to free produce, on the latter I actually witnessed (and gave the reg number to the home owner) a tatty heap of a camper Van stop beside a roadside display of eggs and jams, he took the entire lot and would probably have taken the honesty box as well if it wasn’t bolted down.
As for parkups free or otherwise the worst freeloaders seem to be the ones that sneak in very late at night then disappear early morning, making lots of noise in the process!
when I pay for a parkup I would always prefer a receipt, proof of purchase no argument then who has and has not paid.
