Today’s the day we are putting the van up for sale we are in the process of emptying it and getting it ready.
I’m reluctant to use Ebay but can anyone recommend the best places to advertise please.

Thanks 👍

It gets a lot of bad press but I sold my last motorhome, motorcycle and one or two other large items on Facebook Market place. Its free to use. Things to be aware of. You do get a fair few nutters, time wasters and the odd scammer but the good thing about market place is you can usually easily filter them out by checking their Facebook profiles. Its usually easy to determine if they are genuine or not. Do the entire thing by the messaging system only. Don't give out your phone number in the ad and ignore any requests that simply say "Phone number". I have given out my number in the past by private message but only once I established the buyer was genuine.

The other option is selling through the various motorhome groups on Social media or even on here. I wouldn't bother with Ebay either.

I was offered £6k part exchange by Brownhills on a £55k purchase. I sold privately for £15k to the first person who viewed it, within 24h of advertising :)

HOWEVER, the work was done by a friend/ex-pupil who used to be Dealer Principle at a local caravan dealership: he charged me £500 but did all the photography, all the adverts, dealt with enquiries, showed people over it, negotiated the price and did the handover. He also advised me on preparation and transferring personal number plates. He now does this for a living and I could pass on his details (with his permission) if you live in East Anglia.

Good luck.

I used FB marketplace to sell our last van. A few of the usual tire kickers but the buyer paid cash, took the van and we have heard nothing since. It pays to join lots of FB pages about van sales before you advertise it and then link it to them.
Good luck with the sale Jaq 🫰

Its the right time of year as well. Perfect timing. I might add that I sold my last motorhome on FB market place in 24 hours and my last bike in just 6!

Be prepared though. I was expecting the van to sit there for a week or two before anyone came to look at it and I hadn't emptied it. I ended up in a situation where I had my new van arriving and had to empty the old one in just two hours before the sale went through. There was literally stuff all over the road and driveway. Its amazing what you accumulate. For just a short time I had two vans in front of the house :D

A sale is a sale. If you can do it locally for free the money is just the same in your hand. I don't think autotrader is free from scammers and timewasters either.
No where is free from the scammers but less time wasters and more serious buyers on AT.

Gumtree is another one although I have only bought from there not sold. I don't think Autotrader or Ebay are that expensive for classified sales these days anyway so whatever you feel comfortable with I guess.

We have just sold a 2006 Chausson Allegro through AutoTrader. Only two enquiries, both viewed it and the second bought it. We put it on for 4 weeks and sold it in 2. We also had a big 'For Sale' on it, got some enquiries but no viewers. Also put it on Nextdoor got a couple of enquiries but no viewers.

Facebook Marketplace is becoming the go-to place. Never joined FB and read somewhere that you need a bit of FB history before you can use Marketplace.

Photos of the van on location help to show the van as it is used. Telling a story of how you have used and enjoyed it also makes it stand out from the usual list of stuff.

Had lots of interest already however me being gullible or overly cautious shall I avoid anyone with a locked profile on market place

Personally, my profile is locked as it restricts who has access to your photos, friends and posts. So wouldn't be too worried about that.....but when selling a van?...never done it. Hopefully someone who has, can advise!
