Remember Wintonian..?
He would have given me such a dressing down, for not using a capital W on the first word of this post.
One of my best investments, Joining this website. Saving me a small fortune, by not using boring campsites.... And opening a whole new world of delights.
Mind you, it's less formal and stuffy, these days.
Thanks to the usual suspects.

You really must take the cheap shot at Ral it’s what we have come to expect and admire you for.I’m a new boy on here compared to most, it’s only recently that I ventured onto motorhomer.
I looked at other forums before buying a van, I signed up to one but that didn’t last as I’ve never known my place.
Have to say always found Phil a good and straightforward sort of bloke, I’ve met a few members and been to one meet.
Pretty good lot all around.
Please note I didn’t take a cheap shot at Ral, must be going soft.
Go on, you know you want to Kev.Please note I didn’t take a cheap shot at Ral, must be going soft.
Don't forget Tezza (not the one we know and love=Tezza33) I'm talking the ultra left wing Jeremy Corbyn, Arthur Scargill shagging Tezza.I remember some of the 'discussions' Paul between, Wintonian, JohnH and Northerner.
I notice that JohnH hasn't posted for a long time now?
That explains your appearanceYou need to set up a lump hammer that drops on your face when the alarm is due to go off!
Don't forget Tezza (not the one we know and love=Tezza33) I'm talking the ultra left wing Jeremy Corbyn, Arthur Scargill shagging Tezza.
I once made a friendly overture towards him, the response was like I'd butchered his grandkids! Jaysus, he was aright miserable, bad tempered twat and then some.
Between Tezza, Wintonian, John H and a member who shall remain nameless, it was like party time at the Nuremberg trials.
I had a lot of respect for Wintonian, he could be giving you a right dressing down one minute, the next, he would do anything for you.
I miss them days to be honest, you could get a can of Coke, a bucket of popcorn and watch the slug-fest go on for days.
it was because of Wintonian (David Olley) that I first came into contact with this sitewe joined in 2013..

He helped Carol when she converted her MH into a cabriolet after misjudging a low bridge, he drove a fair distance to meet up with her and sorted some things out, My memory is a bit sketchy on the details now but I know she really appreciated his help.it was because of Wintonian (David Olley) that I first came into contact with this site
The only reason that I discovered this forum in the first place was entirely due to David Olley (Wintonian).
Back in 2014 I was google searching for parts to repair my old omnistor sun canopy on our first (vintage) motorhome and I came across a WC thread, of his, asking if anyone had any spare parts, as his omnistor awning had succumbed to the wind, flipped over his roof and was entirely wrecked.
In the end I replaced my omnistor with a brand new Fiamma awning.
But, I remembered his post and so I joined WC as a free member. I contacted him to see if he wanted my old awning.
He lived in Pontivy, France. We were going over to Brittany that September anyway so I strapped the old awning onto the roof bars and dropped it off to him free of charge.
He was well grateful and insisted that we parked overnight in the grounds of his property. His wife, Hilary, cooked us both a most superb beef bourguignon. Over dinner he told us of the best places to visit in Brittany, especially Quiberon where we travelled to after leaving them.
(Many trips to Quiberon since)
I know that he could "go-on" and he certainly liked the sound of his own voice but he was a very kind soul.
He spoke very highly of his son Giles who competed in motorbike track races
Prior to our meeting him in Pontivy we stayed for one night at a campsite by a lake close by. He went to the trouble of doing a recce on his motorbike and gave me a very comprehensive report.
It was only during the lockdown that I decided to join WC as a full member with the intention of getting in touch with him and Hilary the next time we were in France.
Then I learned of his passing.
Apparently he had been "excommunicated" from the WC forum prior to his death.
Reasons that are unbeknown to me. (I cannot find any of his old posts as they are all deleted.. sad)
Reading between the lines I think that he suffered from some sort of autism/OCD which prompted him to correct every punctuation, spelling, grammar etc.. by other members
anyway
RIP David Olley
(at least you are remembered by myself and a few others on here)
the moral of all the above is that
yes.. its a great forum and I have personally met up with several faces on here and forged some real life friendships especially in the Bikers Forum
Wasn't John H your nemesis Rob?I had my disagreements with Wintonian over the years Barry but he was undoubtedly a clever man. When I eventually met him I wondered if he would shake hands with me but he did and said "it's all part of forum life, I don't expect people to agree with me all the time and I wouldn't want them to".
Later on at that same meet Tom's dog Rocco p1ssed up his leg - he wasn't happy!![]()
