Any recommendations please, we have a discount code and recommendation for Tractive, but am open to suggestions,
Pit pat is another but the reviews say the velcro fixing is not so clever

I've been using Tractive for a couple of years now and find it works well barring one fairly significant problem.

If you or your dog is in an area without mobile broadband coverage you cannot track him or her. That is fairly obvious really because the Tractive cannot report its GPS location without a connection, nor can you receive that location in the app if your phone has no connection.

There is some mitigation by the Tractive because I understand that it has roaming ability so it doesn't necessarily rely on a single network in any given location.

Battery life is good and much improved if you set up a power saving location. This is enabled by linking the device to a Wi-Fi network. I have a router in the 'van so Jones' Tractive uses this as the Wi-Fi network. No data is used, it's just detection of the network presence.

You will need the optional neoprene cover. The charging contacts on the device have no cover and will be damaged or become corroded if not covered. If Sydney likes going in the sea I would recommend rinsing the Tractive in fresh water to ensure that no salt remains on the charging contacts.

All in all I'd recommend it.

Final thought. There are two subscription levels. Single country or worldwide. You, like me, will require the latter.

I use PawFit. Very good tracking, including a live option which updates every few seconds. The fastening is very secure. There’s an annual subscription which I think is about £50. Easily worth it for peace of mind and so far we’ve have coverage on our travels. We bought an extra charger to keep in the van.

We are using an AirTag at the moment but it is not very secure in the collar attachment. I realise it’s limitations as it not a true GPS and I have just started using it so don’t know yet how good it is.
My daughter’s dog also has an AirTag and I can see it on my iPhone from about 150yds away.

The trouble with air tags is that they only work by a nearby iPhone picking the AirTag up by Bluetooth. If there are no iPhones in the vicinity, it doesn’t can’t be tracked. They have their uses, but dog tracking isn’t really one of them.

Another Tractive user here. Seems pretty good after about six months use.
We clip it to the handle on her K9 harness, and although she is a terror for exploring all manner of undergrowth, it's never yet been dislodged.

I've just ordered one of theses Andy for Luna and I'll make a pouch to attach it to her harness
