Hi
Can anyone advise on a sat-nav app or stand alone unit that will include
A: Link with Apple car play if a app
B: Show roads limited to 3.5ton
C: Allow imput of Motorhome height
D: Search for destination via latitude & longitude

Last year we had lots of problems with weight limits in France, most the time we just ignored them but would be better to pick a route missing them.

PS: does anyone know if the Route Des Grand Alps can be driven with a 4.4ton Motorhome

Many French weight limits apply to commercial vehicles only, check the sign.

I just bought a Garmin Camper 795 EU which will certainly do B-D but you'd need to check A as it's not something I would have looked for when I bought it.

Im just planning to use the Magic Earth app this year in France with a 4.25t motorhome. It has a truck feature but Im not sure how good it is. Ill just ignore any 3.5t limits if I have to. I have done most of the route des grande Alpes though and the only bit I seem to remember that has a 3.5t limit from my research is the col du galibier but there is a tunnel alternative. Most of the bits we did from memory were proper decent roads with all sorts of big vehicles on them and certainly plenty of motorhomes. Its fantastic.

Thanks lots of useful info. Thinking of French alps then across to Pyrenees via Verdon gorge and Ardeche etc.

Sounds like our trip for this summer. Verdon Gorges if you haven't been are fantastic. Don't miss the Route des cretes (in red) but do it clockwise. Not done it in the motorhome but seen some big ones up there. Best done early on a sunny day I think. We always go round on the bike.

Ardeche is great also, Gorges and the river. Good Kayak trips from Vallon Point de Arc

Brillant info thanks

I use Copilot for my 4.5 ton Hymer, if you download it onto iPad/iPhone it will link with carplay, not sure about android but dimensions, weight and lat/long are available

Hi,
I used OsmAnd pro. It cost 29.99 a year. It has global maps. You can choose various vehicle types or create your own profile. I have done that (see attached picture).
I used it on Android but Mr Google says it works with apple car play.
We have used it in the UK and Ireland, sometimes it can be a bit fickle (doesn't know where you are) and had to redownload the maps once but overall, touch wood it is good and kept us safe.
I program the route before we leave so saves any stress enroute if it misbehaves!
I know there are free apps out there but at less than a pound a week, feel it is worth it. We got it because ended up once having to turn around before a narrow bridge (fortunately kind person let us use their drive), there was no signs. Afterwards downloaded the app and it would have taken us a different way.

I tried OSMAnd a couple of years ago and found it clunky and unintuitive and prone to freezing; has it improved in the interim as it's cheaper than Copilot?

Hi, agree not the most intuitive but got to grips with it fairly easily. I haven't had any issues with it freezing. The main issue I had was that it sometime said that it couldn't find a route and to download appropriate maps. It was like it didn't know where it was because if I put a name in as start location (rather than current position) it worked. Interestingly when I emailed them to 'express.my frustration ' didn't get a reply but have had no problems since then!
Meant to say does lat/long as well.

CoPilot works with Android Auto. The CoPilot support site says that it won't work with CarPlay, but until I pointed out the error to them a couple of days ago it also said that it wouldn't work with Android Auto. Both Android and Apple apps are described as enabling caravan navigation based on vehicle size. The Android version also permits entry of vehicle weight and incorporates this into route calculation, so probably the same for the Apple version.

Google have it seems screwed up Android Auto recently with an update, dunno if they have fixed it yet.

And for those who don't want to sign up to inkl.com, the original article is here: https://www.techradar.com/vehicle-t...th-google-maps-and-users-arent-happy-about-it

I have a different issue with AA, prior to this when I used AA and G maps, G maps would work fine, but you didn't get the traffic alerts and I couldn't see the music on my thumb drive, it kept putting up next to it either app icons I don't have (and according to the dealer neither does the car) or different radio stations don't use, come out of AA and all is fine this is since we bought the car in July.
