My great plans for 2020 were trashed by COVID.
I have sourced Flights from Bangkok to both Seattle and Vancouver which are similar. I would use the same airport for the return flight and a cross-border back RV trip to Yellowstone and Calgary. It seems you can rent a motorhome for say a month (2 weeks each and use it in both countries)
So Any general comments and any preferences for renting in USA Vs Canada
VERY provisional.Any recommendations for a rental company A 2 sleeper is enough but hoping for a good and reliable rental company NOT a cheapo. I realise numerous add-ons will be needed and possibly an unlimited mileage deal etc etc
Flights are priced ok and most have a short change in Taipei. Again not interested in the cheaper multi stop flights.
Thanks in advance

Ps
Shared route
From Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada via I-90 E

1 d 19 hr (4,086 km)
For the best route in current traffic visit https://maps.app.goo.gl/1urxMvHsN2BFwyYi8?g_st=ac

PS 2 I have visited Canada and US before so I am aware of many Things but all help welcome
PS 3 The flights from Thailand would complete a circom navigation as om my 1st trip to Canada I flew back to UK from Vancouver

Wow, that is a long flight!

No tips, but just to say very glad you are feeling up to this kind of adventure after your fairly recent medical situation (y)

Thanks David. I believe that I will be GOOD but no booking just yet and other matters to sort !I (insurance Driving licence) .Not 100% sure that NIDA will agree ? If she is not happy then NOGO

A HIRE car was/is a thought how did the accommodation/food work out posh food in posh hotels not our idea of fun !

I'll be interested in how it all works out.... vaguely considering a couple of weeks away in the middle of Canada sometime on a house swap.

We’ve used Cruise Canada (Toronto) several time now with no problems. The last time we were out for seven weeks and went from Canada to the USA and back again. Make sure if your going from Canada to USA you fill in an “esta” form online before crossing as they don’t do it at the border any more.

I looked into it and couldn't believe the RV rentals costs, have you done Oz or NZ?

Covid stuffed up our trip to Canada in 2020 also.
We booked an RV with Freedom Destinations who I cannot recommend because they are still holding our deposit.
The airlines and cruise ship to Alaska all refunded our deposits.:)

I have just started following these guys which has wetted our appetites for a future trip.

Over 30 years we’ve been all over the US and Canada using hire cars. Even before the internet never had any problem finding accommodation and a vast choice of places to eat.

When we were over in the colonies a good few years ago my son in law and I hired a Harley. Over the road from the dealer there was a RV hire company so I wandered over (oops, no I didn't, you cannot cross a road in the USA on foot, I got in the car and drove across the road) and got the details. In order to hire it I would have to give them my credit card and they had to check that it was good for $10,000. (Or was it $20,000. Anyway it was the whole value of the vehicle). Then I looked at the terms and conditions. Any damage to the underside, the roof, the sides or the back was not covered by the insurance. That's why they wanted the whole value of the camper on deposit with them before I could have the vehicle. Etc etc etc. With wobbly legs I got back in the car and drove back across the road to the Harley dealer, got on the bike, my son in law had another one and we rode off into the sunset. Engine firing once every lamp post.
The USA is firmly off our 'maybe visiting again someday' list. I don't need to say why.

We have hired RV's in the US and Canada, never had to pay a deposit for "whole value of the vehicle", they do however seem to invent extra bits to add to insurance, at one time CDW covered the lot.

Yes Colin the add-ons are annoying but some needed.
I have a quote from Canadream near Vancouver £4000 unlimited mileage 4 weeks. A very nice Panel Van. The extras may make it nearer £5,000. Yes I would need to lodge an amount on my credit card. For now that looks great. Just 2 nights in an hotel on arrival in Vancouver. Travel insurance and costs to be added but a once nnly FINAL big trip ! (Rockies and Yellowstone)

We hired one for 3 weeks to do a tour of Florida, Georgia, SC and Alabama around 15 years ago now and I can't recall any issues with whole of vehicle insurance either.

One thing we did which was useful was to hit a big WalMart as soon as we got the RV and did a big shop. We bought a BBQ there too which we left at our last night venue before we handed the RV back. I'd take a small toolkit for next time as the BBQ was very wobbly! The RV didn't come with a TV lead to plug in on campsites either so we had to borrow one during the trip so our lad could watch some TV (he was only 11 at the time).

YES, Thanks. A visit to Walmart is in the plan for items ..Eg a camp oven to use and bring back and other things as you post. Need to consider the cost of the add-ons and as you say buy and leave... Progress to wait until 2025 to get my International Driving Permit. Planning 2 nights in Abbotsford (RV Rental)) after the flight to Vancouver but can drop RV and go on the flight same evening on the way home

Reading this now makes me wonder how we managed but your correct only one snag in 10 trips we stopped 20 mls short of our destination an accommodation wasn't up to much an that wouldn't happen now.
Car rental and flights where much cheaper to Seattle than Vancover when we went
