Morning,

I did a quick search yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at the market value of our Betsy. So.... as it's the 11th month of the insurance it's time to take quotes and all that pallaver. What sort of costs are involved in a tracker folks?

If required by insurance they should have a list of ones that meet their approval. If you want one for your own peace of mind then costs vary hugely.
Both the physical tracker with fitting and monitoring can be expensive.

Below is a link to give you an idea.

Make sure you fit one that meets insurance requirements, failure to do so could be an expensive error.

We went with Phantom here’s their website.

They do a lifetime monitoring charge for £399, it’s worth considering as it pays for itself in 2.5 years. I think the monthly payment is £13.50.

Renewed our insurance yesterday. Got a quote from AIB then got some other quotes and called AIB back and they matched the best quote.

I got their list this morning and while Phantom is on it the trackers are all listed as discontinued. Damn.

Just contact your insurers with the spec of what you’re fitting before going ahead.

There is a company called "Monro Auto Electrics" in Galasheils that might be worth speaking to? (actually, did you go there about the Aerial problem?).
I took a Subaru Imprezza WRX there quite a while back when the keys were stolen and had to get all the locks changed, plus alarm and immobiliser changed or recoded or whatever, etc.

Yes I was there on Friday but didn't get the chance for a chat. I'll phone them this week and see if they can help.

This Tracker business, is good business, I assume they pay up if there's a problem. It wasn't mentioned when I re-insured. Totting it up with install/monthly payments it's a costly game. But if it is a necessity then your stumped.
Personally i'd be more interested in it not going away in the first place with immobilisation. Do cat 1 Thatcham not cut the mustard anymore?

We have Phantom ,we regularly forget to turn it off and within minutes we get a phone call .We have lifetime .

Got my renewal quote and it was conditional on having a tracker fitted.

They provided the tracker and monitoring free, and fitting just involved double sided tape (integral battery).
They said if not fitted (by me) within 7 days of it arriving the theft insurance would be void.

Desptached; received; fitted and registered within 72 hours of ordering.

Really, is that new not heard of it before, black box for the kids. yes. Who do you use? I guess mine of little value for them to worry about now. Double sided tape install 🤔

I would be a bit wary of adding a Tracker to obtain a cheaper insurance price, especially cheaper ones (such as self-fit units stuck on with double-sided tape).
Should the tracker not be working for some reason (battery dies, say), then will it give the insurance company a get-out to avoid paying a claim?

Handy thing to have for extra security, but not as a way to get cheaper insurance UNLESS it is an absolute requirement to get an insurance policy at all AND it is a fully monitored system so you are always aware that it is operational.

Can I ask who that was with?

Re Phantom. I had an exchange of emails with the "famous" Amanda. Her end took ages to respond several days sometimes and eventually it was getting clear that the fitting north of Watford was going to be an issue so I said point blank I can have a mobile fitter, or I can travel to Edinburgh or Newcastle, that was over a fortnight ago and heard nothing since. Useless. One of the worst customer experiences yet. Just hopeless.

Yesterday I went to a local motor electrical business and had a Vodaphone Cat 5 system fitted. Just waiting for Vodaphone to contact me for their side of things.

When I renewed my van I reduced it's value and got a cheaper quote. If it gets trashed I probably wouldn't get another.
I also have difficulty getting insurance because of it's age ( not mine i might add), no one is interested, so I have to stick with my present company no matter what they do.
Caught in a cleft stick really.
