Connecting an inverter to 240 ring main

Evening all.
I’m playing with the idea of upgrading my inverter and then connecting it to the ring main in the van.
The van is new to us and currently has an inverter fitted that has just one socket directly off it. Very near this socket is one of the 240v sockets that works when the ehu is used. Can I just connect into that 240v socket thus making all sockets live when the inverter is on? I get that the external hook up point would be live then but as long as no one touches then it wouldn’t be a problem?

It will be absolutely fine, btw I’ve got an inverter for sale 😉
 
You would have to use a 2 way isolation switch, why though may i ask requiring 230v as everything in vans is 12v.
 
Our Mains hook up in the outside ends at a 13a 3 pin socket on the inside ....

The mains breakers that were factory fitted now end up in a 13a plug .

The inverter is wired to another 13a 3 pin socket at the side of the mains hook up 3 pin 13a socket .

Motorhome breakers plug into whichever power supply is appropriate .
 
If you are thinking as you say of upgrading your inverter you can get one that will do it for you. Not the cheap ones but the high end ones. You run a wire from the ring (energised from the EHU) to an input on the inverter. Then the inverter kicks in whenever you are not on EHU and the output goes live but shuts off as soon as it detects a voltage on the input again. These are MEANT to be plugged into the ring. I think NDS and Tbb both do one as does Dometic
 
Victron inverter charger has a 240v straight through socket. I used 32amp wire

. So the hookup feeds a single plug socket it's a 100amp charger and 2400w invertor.
So it has two live outputs when on hookup.I just have single sockets on both..and a 4way / sockets short 80cm extionlead. But No ring main as I have in house, I think your find that's to double power to outlets.as feeds from both directions. Not enough power from invertors for that.
 
I just phoned Daniel at S&G leisure.

Dropped the van off first thing, went back later in the day and all the outlets worked from the inverter he’d fitted.

Went to the pub on the way home, fancied more than 2 pints so stayed in the car park that night and boiled the mains kettle in the morning.
 
I guess that’s me told then!!
Perhaps my question should have been.
How do I connect it to the ring main. I’m sure with some clever tech it that will allow it.

If it is the same circuit that delivers current to your Elektroblock you might even crack the holy grail of perpetual motion.

Your inverter will supply the EBL with 230v that in turn will send charge to your battery that will then power your inverter and so on 😀

There are some inverters that can be connected to power your sockets so a good start would be to tell us what make and model your inverter is (y)
