Hello all
I know it's early for the "C" word, but want to make sure I can get something booked.

We are going to be staying over the Christmas period in Tomintoul (Cairngorms) and have promised my wife Christmas day off from cooking lunch on the big day so we're looking for somewhere as near as possible to Tomintoul to have a traditional Christmas day lunch on the big day. I've exhausted all possibilities in Tomintoul itself, and not getting very far going further afield. So was just wondering if anyone has ever done this and recommend a venue as close to Tomintoul as possible?
If not it's going to be Christmas dinner in the ridgemonkey 😁👍

Cheers

Colin.

Weve dined in the Richmond Arms a few times, not the best place in the world but good grub.

Have you tried the Clockhouse Restaurant? Failing that your nearest are really Ballater or Grantown on Spey which are both quite a few miles away.

Hi Tony I. Yep, clockhouse closes for the season in October. Grantown is nearest, so looks like I'll start trying there, or Ballater which is even further. Didn't really want to drive on Christmas day especially in the area, just in case it snows.....a lot😁

Old bridge in Aviemore or McDonald Hotel Aviemore. Aviemore is probably your best bet to find something for Christmas up that neck of the woods.

There's also the Cairngorm Hotel in Aviemore but I haven't eaten in there. But as Wully said, the Old Bridge serve good food.

They have done Christmas dinner in the Cairngorm Hotel in the past though.

Agree with Wully - love the Old Bridge in Aviemore. If that’s not on I reckon you have better places in Ballater than Grantown, although it’s a bit further. The new Fish Shop restaurant in Ballater in super, if a bit costly. Had a great meal there last week. Failing that the newly refurbed Balmoral Arms, the Clachan Grill, the Lochnagar (curry), the Darroch Learg and the Craigendarroch (all Ballater) are good. A bit further afield the Fife Arms in Braemar is exceptional but I suspect it’s already fully booked as loads of celebs go there for Xmas and New Year!

Cook dinner before you go as a last resort .Hope you find somewhere
Thanks Liz. That was plan "C'. We're leaving on the 23rd from Suffolk and we've got a Fridge so that may have to be the solution. Re heat in the good old ridgemonkey on the 25th😁👍

Of course you could do the unthinkable and surprise her by cooking Christmas dinner yourself in the van. 😬

Not a task to be taken lightly of course. Mrs D has done it many times in our van, the full works but it's not easy. I lose my temper just doing cheese on toast so would never attempt it myself. You could do a cunning plan though. Tell her to go out for a walk and it will all be ready when she gets back. Then just get one of those catering companies to drop it all off all cooked for you. 🤣

I love the Ridgemonkey it's a great bit of kit.

But you could cook a whole Xmas dinner for 2 in a Cobb BBQ.
