You'll need to remove the chrome, or at least find a way of etching it else the paint won't stick.
On plain plastic I lightly rub with fine emery (or vapour blast with dust) to key surface, then use 'plastic primer' before spraying the top coat.

I assume you can remove both ends Wully, if so, look into having the ends powder coated.

The end parts come off Terry dident know you could powder coat plastic I thought heat was involved to powder coat.?

I'm sure I've seen chrome effect spray for plastic car trim in a car parts shop before.

You will need to burn off the old chrome with a blow lamp, if the handle melts model new one with heavy duty playdough. Available at all good builders merchants.

WC at it's best. We all come together for a member in need of help and constructive advice in his hour of need.
No need to thank us Wully we do this out of love for our brother in arms.

Bottle of whisky each wouldn't go amiss though. 😁

Some of the plastics are statically charged and chromed, only way at home is a acid 2 pac with a poly over it, still not as good as the elctro job.

Contact this company, if you remove the ends and post them the price could (or might not) be reasonable, it could be cheaper to buy new handles

Or you could read this and try the paint that is recommended
