I'm travelling from Lancaster to Berwick-on-Tweed next week and there are several viable routes across country from the M6 to the A1. I've never used the route via Hawick and Jedburgh. Does anyone have experience of the suitability of that route for a motorhome, as opposed to the A69, for example?

I've used the A698 which I think is part of that route and is a nice easy road to travel.

Driven from Hawick to Berwick many a time and it's a good road parts of which must be roman as they are -------> Berwick is very interesting as apart from the Lowry trail there are the earthworks to marvel at.

I take that route, coming off around Carlisle/M6 to the A7 (think it is described as scenic route to Edinburgh or something) all the way through Hawick, close to Jedburgh, Kelso, etc. on a fairly frequent basis (oddly, when coming up from Berkshire to home, the difference between West Coast and across on the A7 compared to East Coast is less than 1 mile in distance).
It is fine for a Motorhome, but you do need to stay awake as you get quite a few bends with dodgy cambers I find, but it is an good drive with usually zero traffic encountered.
Wave when you pass my house around 15 miles from Berwick :)

I drove that route yesterday! No problems and plenty of great views. If you are in Berwick next weekend don't miss the Food and Beer festival

Wave when you pass my house around 3 miles from Berwick :)

I was going to mention a lovely spot to over night but as the thread went dead....
