Emptying porta potti

Now I like to go wild, but because of an oversight I have managed to renew subs to both Caravan Club and Camping and Caravanning Club this year. This really annoyed me because I have not used any of them this year at all.

Anyways i was driving along and happened across a C&C site and somewhere in the back of my head I remembered reading somewhere that you could use their facilities to empty toilets. So I wheeled in and spoke to the warden. A very unhelpful and unfriendly chap I must say, and he said I would need to pay £5 in order to pout the contents of my bucket down his drain.

I declined the offer and drove on.

Did I get it wrong that that service is/was available ?

Am definetly cancelling subs to both these organisations.

C & C Club

Hi Yes you were right the Camping and Cavanning Club does allow you to use their facilities, for a fee as you found out.
You cann also fill up with water and use the showers whilst you are there- but after paying your membership fee it is a bit steep to levy another charge.
The only time we used the club was for the rallies and holiday sites that they hold.
So like you we have cancelled our membership.

Ah right.

Well the place I was asked to pay was up near Poolewe.

On another trip we had gone into the one at Arrochar and while the wife was in the office asking about something I just helped myself to the drains and the water, no charge and nobody seemed to mind.

Can you tell me if your not a member can you still use the £5 service ?

Try france

Just returned from france, there are many places provided by towns and villages to get water, empty toilets and sleep over night. Most are free or just a couple of euros. Use your Tesco tokens on the tunnel stay free in Aires its great.

No you must be a CCC member and this service is not available at all sites I have called there myself the warden asked where we stayed the night before I told him (we had wild camped ) because we had not stayed on a site he refused to allow us to use the site services we only required to fill up with fresh water and empty toilet cassette but he still said no so that is a site I will always avoid.

The site at Glencoe is another matter the couple there said feel free to use whatever you want at no charge when I questioned this they said put something in the charity box if you wish so thats where my fiver went.

It would be cheaper to stay at a small cl site, they are usually only about £5

The C&CC site states the charge is now £6.50 to empty your loo and get water. You can use the toilet block and washing machines if available and remain on site for a limited time. There are only a few C&CC sites that allow this.

Most CS sites charge between £7 and £10. Yes some are cheaper.

All sites in the UK have to pay business rates so they have to recover this. If the site is linked to a Septic Tank they have to pay for this to be emptied. They also have to pay water rates. It is therefor reasonable to expect a small charge but I think £6.50 is getting a bit steep.

2 Euro to get a limited supply of fresh water and empty the loo does seem very reasonable compared to rip off UK.

I don't think you need to be a member.

There's a listing of the sites here: The Camping and Caravanning Club - Motorhome Service Points
I imagine you would probably be refused if you asked at any other of the C&CC sites.

Sure it's expensive compared with some CLs if you only want to dump and fill, but you do get 3 hours electric, use of the washing machines, showers, etc...

Well what annoyed me most was having already paid to become a member and being refused to pour some dirty water down a drain. I didn't want to stay or use showers or electric. Just seemed to be mean. Instead I drove to next town where I filled with fuel and poured the lot down their toilet. No problem. And before somebody says anything I don't use any chemicals or perfumes, the thing is only used for number ones during the night, so it's no different than going to use a normal toilet anyway.

The attitude of that particular warden was very poor. Not helpful at all. I've contacted the club about it and waiting a reply, but definetely won't be renewing again. ANd am taking the sticker off my van window. Why should I advertise their club for free !

Their washing machines and tumble dryers are NOT free, so any use of those facilities will add to what's already been paid!!

easy cure for this..keep some drain keys in your tool kit and a length of hose pipe...find nearest waste drain lid in the road near some public toilets empty the toilet down there and use any drinking water tap to fill up water tank and u can use the hosepipe with tap adaptor to fill up on board tank.. before emptying tank make sure it is waste drain and not surface water drain, the clue will be the smell.

I would not recommend opening any drain at toilet's and emptying container down it
First off all it is a serious offence to open any drain unless you you are a contractor with the relevant documentation from WATER AUTHORITY.
It is possible that you could put it down the wrong drain leading to water contamination.
I would say do not do it (say nothing on emptying your toilets BIG BROTHER is Watching you,and collecting information ready to pounce)

The fees and conditions for emptying on CC C sites are in their book, which as a member You will have.
Water costs money. So does emptying a septic tank.

I know it can be done free or cheaply in France, but that is there not here.

We have just returned from a month in France, Only had to pay for one night's fees. We always use the local shops which is why the French towns and villages provide the aires.

For £37.00 a year, or 72p per week i think its worth being in the CC&C, just to use the facilities now & then, when needed! let alone all the meets & temp holiday sites, theres nearly always a certificated site nearby £5.00/ £6.50 a night, found one at Roscolyn Angelsey £3.00 for a single!....jack

While I also would not recommend opening any drain at toilet's or anywhere else and emptying container down it
I am puzzled as to what serious offence anyone who did would be commiting also what would the relevant documentation be

i have been emptying cesspits and tanks etc for years .i have a certificate from south west water that allows me onto unmanned sites outside of normal hours . i know of no certificate as mentioned and would love to know what where when the op. is talking about. i am also a registered keyholder for water sites be it waste or clean water. please enlighten me . cheers alan.

No Idea what the law says but C&CC do it for temp Holiday sites. Stayed on one in S Wales doing this year. Sure no certificates involved. Nobody is more anal about rules than them.
