Daily fail has got a new bone....

I’ve just had a brainwave......why don’t the councils provide proper motorhome stay over sites for motorhome and camper owners so they have somewhere to park instead of congesting beauty spots, towns and villages. Now, just need to think what they could call them. What about motorhome Aires? Thats a good name, and they could provide some sort of central point for disposing of grey and black waste, and maybe a tap for fresh water....And they could charge a few £ per night.......
Now, why hasnt anybody else thought of that?...........

Do you mean lateral joined up thinking.

Its councillors you are talking about, that’s way beyond their remit. :(

and maybe reinstate roadside bins (Highland Region)?

Ok so again we are being put under the title of Flycampers. I dont like the similarity to the word Flytippers.

Quoted from the Daily Fail

"Fly-camping', a camping expedition that results in fly-tipping and often seen at music festivals such as Glastonbury, has become a headache for staff, the organisation said.

Workers have come across dumped tents, airbeds, chairs among other things when cleaning up grounds. To go with it is a grubby heap of beer and food cans, disposable barbecues and excrement."

This isnot being caused by Motorhomes

One day they will realise that car trippers are the worst for leaving rubbish. And they dont have a toilet in the car.
They just dont get it do they.? As has been said Aires need opening. They wouldnt cost much to organise. Many areas have waste ground not used.Or convert some of the massive car parks which are never full. Some councils are already letting motorhomes stopover in the carparks for a small charge with marked motorhome bays so it cant be a planning issue. Not Rocket Science. And with staycations becoming the new thing now it needs sorting urgently.Maybe a new petition to the Government so it can be discussed?

If they do that, they won’t be able to pin every bit of litter on us.
First remove the bins, then pin the litter on these pesky Motorhome owners.

I was wrong in post 4, they are capable of lateral thinking after all. ;)

Just remember on the whole we are dealing with the British general public. It needs to be simple for them to understand. Camper parking might make more sense. What’s the use of bins if rubbish is stacked around them?

If we can’t have aires a chemical disposal point would be nice the same as the facility at Lytham St Anne’s. It could always be joined onto a public convenience somewhere in tourist hotspots.

Yes Flycamping is an odious but accurate term for those who behave so badly !
Not us I know.
I repeat my suggestion that we dispense with the term wild camping to describe what we like to do !
I am not suggesting a new name for "our website".
The most obvious and descriptive term is "Freedom Camping" but, as I have posted before, this would be hijacked by many to "freeloading" !
Including the words responsible or environmentally friendly or the like would be nice.
Undecided over the use of the term "aire"
Camperstop is a good description or stopover..any others?
I think the FB group are in danger of overegging the cause but I did note they seem to ne learning. But a personal communication is better than a "proforma".
We need to be more subtle and targetted in our efforts

Read the article until I got to ’park their campervans in motorway lay-bys.’ I have never seen a motorway lay-by and suspect this journalist (?) has no idea what he/she is talking about.

I have seen them on the smart motorways but they are usually reserved for foreign truck drivers for when their driving hours are up.

The Emergency Refuge Areas on smart motorways must be the scariest place to pull up and they have never been called lay-bys. I believe they are constantly supervised by cctv. No, I still don’t think this journalist (?) knows much.

campfires and bottles/ cans has always been teenagers who dont want / cant go to the pub.
were close to glastonbury , never been aware of any issues with more offsite wild camping whilst the festival is on. . pleanty of it going on rest of year arround glastonbury.... which is actually a fair way from the actual festival site at pilton

Do you not know "Flycampers"are a group with our new name and have found a new POI stopover and its covers all the motorways. Its called the Hard Shoulder.Feel free to park up on this new Hard Shoulder "motorway Lay By" for as long as you want. Dont forget to get out your table and chairs so you can watch the cars and HGVS whizzing by inches from you at breakneck speeds.Get the barbeque lit and burn them sausages and enjoy what will be the best new staycation place for 2020. Use it while you can because before long Boris and the government will fall in you are parking on this fabulous hardshoulder parkup for free and as eggs are eggs the Government will soon no doubt introduce a small uncongestion charge for the ones like "you" for enjoying the freedom motorway stopovers provide.Just one thing be careful! and enjoy. Phil dont forget to add these unlimited POIS to the map.

Probably because of all the hassle from the 1960s anti-caravan legislation, because of public conception equating caravans and motorhomes with 'pikeys', and because many councillors in tourist areas allegedly have ties to licenced campsites and so have conflict of interest. (Just saying...)
