onboard mains charger blowing fuse

I'm in Portugal plugged into the mains, just noticed the battery wasn't being charged.
found a blown 25 amp fuse in the charger board, only had a 20 amp on hand.....it blew immediately.
have removed the charger but see nothing amiss.
checked everywhere, but only found a disconnected +ve solar wire on the main battery.
can't see that would cause the problem........
the circuit breaker wasn't thrown.

any ideas ????
its on a Mercedes Rapido 987.

Dont disconnect the wire from solar reg to battery,only ever disconnect the panel to regulator as doing what you do will blow the regulator esp in summer.
No i take it its the solar regulator and not the onboard charger which has gone wonky,if so try using another charger in place to see what happens.
 
I would fit the correct fuse first ,fuse's ,often blow without reason, it would help if you posted the make and model of unit

the onboard charger is an ELKA/SONECTRAD ETD39 1307 .........
I'm charging the batteries with an external charger & have re-attached the loose solar panel wire.
nice chap next door fixed me up with a 25 amp fuse.
think I'll let the batteries charge up overnight, unplug from the mains, then refit the vans charger with new fuse
& see what happens.
thankfully have a spare solar regulator in case the original is blown.

solar regulator was goosed........thanks for the heads up trevskoda. glad I had a spare.
refitted the charger with new 25 amp fuse......it didn't blow
but still not charging on mains.
thinking of replacing it with a CTEK unit when I get home.

Try a numax 10ah unit at 50 bucks or a china one at 13 or less,all fan cooled smart units

I've got a 160W solar panel, I see votronic has quite a range of contollers....
reckon I could get away with the 165W model ??
looks like a nice peice of kit.

Motorhome charger units don't like knackered batteries, it may be that your battery is on the way out and this has cooked the charger.
 
both batteries less than 2 years old.....I know that's no guarantee..... will have them tested when I get home.
