How big do the letters have to be to be seen from the space, because I'm
contemplating getting them made up in Russian numerals and letters as well
English, just to be sure.

Well, spy satellites could read a newspaper headline back in the 60's, so probably not that big at all. But good luck persuading the SVR to look for your van

Seriously though, emergency vehicles have a dayglo orange circle on their roofs to make them more obvious to helicopters, so that might be useful as well as the registration mark.

on it, hope they don't note the reg, plates and so gets dumped outside

Fitted them to my van when I bought it new in 2010, still going strong and no side of peeling.
Also had all the windows etched with the van reg, used to be done at the shows.
Anything to piss the toe rags off
