Was looking on another site and someone suggested painting reg number on roof to help motorway cameras/ police spot stolen vans. I am sure it has been discussed before, but what is the consensus.?

Not sure about using paint but vinyl sticker idea seems good. For a helicopter to spot how big would characters need to be?

Is it worth putting some sort of notice in side windows that you have done this to warn of potential thieves?

Helicopter getting sent up to catch stolen motorhome ? Seems unlikely

Maybe not helicopter but plenty of overhead cameras these days. Also 1000s of plate reader cameras to catch out those without insurance, mot, etc. I guess plate reader cameras also check if vehicle passing by has been reported stolen which then alerts police in the area. I guess many a ”police camera action” type chase starts as a result of a camera reader check.

Though sceptical about chopper use surely anything that deters has to be of benefit as long as deterrent is visible hence sign in window suggestion In addition to roof identification.

I wouldn't tell thieves where your defences are!

Ah ! Never thought of that . That'll be when the whirlybirds get called in .

Not a cat in hells chance of the Police helicopter or them even bothering about looking at npr cameras. There automatic for road insurance mot or tax. A neighbour had his rear door smashed open he informed police 4 times they responded on the 5 day a comunity copper knocked on his front door and gave him a crime number wasn,t interested in photos of damage or the list of stolen items

I think it is very optimistic to think that the police would care if a stolen van was being driven around the roads. They seem to like the easy catch, like a speeding ticket or no tax or insurance, and that would land on your doormat.

Actually looking for reg nos on ANPR is a very easy activity if they are logged - computers do all the work.
Getting the police to set it going will no doubt be the big problem.

Hi, had vinyl registration number on the roof of all our motorhomes, usually in a reflective finish, letters all 200mm high, had one vinyl lettering company tell me we don't do number plates, oh well since when have number plates had 200mm high letters?

Must admit I do love the madness of motorhomers , and others . Got to say this is easily the maddest I've read in a long time

I would go for 300mm,been thinking along these lines for a while now, reflective ones dissimilar to roof colour, black white red or yellow maybe.
Next job im thinking now,may have to wash roof.
