Use camper van table outside

Hi

Our campervan has a table which has a single folding leg in the middle of one end. The opposite end of the table has two fittings which hook over a rail and are locked in place. Very similar to these:

I'd like to be able to use the table outside as well as in the van and wondered if anyone has any ideas of how I might do that. This weekend, we were camped near a fence so hooked the fittings over the top wire, which kind of worked but (a) was dependent on a suitable wire fence and (b) wasn't very stable.

Thanks.

Helen

Same as my table ,you could use one locking leg from a old caravan table at one end, fold away when using in van.

Had a quick google for campervan external table rail and it shows a number of fairly flush fittings you could screw to outside of van / kitchen unit.
Might work

There are some vans which come with a rail screwed to galley unit where it projects into SLD opening, on the face of it a good idea, until that is you are on uneven ground, you then need an adjustable leg or extension which is adjustable.

buy four screw in legs with fittings........fit to table.....unscrew them is they are not needed in van....when you have to drop table down........just screw them in again....when you need to use table outdoors..........thin metal screw in legs take up no room to store.......sorted

That looks like a possibility. However, the table is stowed inside the van tailgate so it might not fit. I'll investigate.

Thanks.

That looks like a possibility too. We might be able to fit a rail to the back of the kitchen unit cupboards which would be accessible via the offside sliding door. Depends on how much space there is there at the right height so I'll have a look. If it works, that would be a neat solution as it wouldn't require anything extra on the table which has to fit in its stow space. Also, I could do the washing up on the table (weather permitting!!) and put the wet dishes up on the kitchen unit :D

We have a Toyota Alphard camper van which is quite wee (less than 5m) so I don't think we would want to carry extra legs for the occasional bit of UK sunshine! Good idea if you have plenty of room.

The double leg at one end should fold around the single leg you have letting you stow it in t/gait,mine is held in plastic corner brackets on toilet wall

Don't underestimate the power of those 'suction cup' type of fittings, we have shiny surfaces inside ours and use them as hooks, toilet roll holder even kitchen roll holder and they've never fallen off, they might have a suitable style like a towel rail or similar.

Not exactly what you asked but, we bought a separate very light table with folding legs for outside. In fact, over time we have stopped carrying the original table which came with the van, which was VERY heavy, and just us the lightweight one stowed where the original one would have been.

We have two tables in our van each fitted with a marine style cylindrical leg socket, and two cylindrical "leg" poles. The longer pole is used to mount the table into a socket in the van floor, the shorter pole is used with a Fiamma Tripod Foot to allow either of the tables to be set up anywhere inside or out, retaining the same overall height. Just wondering if you could fit a leg receiver under your table without interfering with the existing folding leg, which would allow you to use the tripod base outside?

You can see all the parts here:

I had that exact query with our last van, ended up screwing a suitable rail to the back of the kitchen unit which is exposed when sliding door is open on a PVC.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Could you post a link to a picture?

Yes, we do that too. We have a folding low picnic table from Go Outdoors which is great for drinks and snacks etc but the bigger, taller table is useful for prepping food and washing up.

To be completely honest, we ended up getting a second, slightly larger lightweight table as well. Both are tall enough to sit at for eating meals and their combined weight is still a small fraction of the original. The smaller one stows unobtrusively behind a cab seat and is the one we use most of the time. We only need two so I can put the gas camping stove on one when cooking outside - we have abandoned the extremely cumbersome screw-in legs that came with that.
