Sat Nav or Route Planner With Gradient Avoidance?

Hairydog - yeah I thought about that but had images of being directed down narrow tracks etc, might give it a shot though in a area I know to see what it does.

Molly2 - thanks I'll have a look :)

Molly2 - it seems we have a winner thanks. The Argui TX720 truck sat nav looks exactly like what I wanted, it's for trucks so maybe a slight variation on yours but seems ideal. (Included screen shots incase it's of interest to anyone in the future) 20190516_123237.jpg20190516_123208.jpg

Mine is 17 years old and has no trouble tackling the Alps. I just don't expect too much. There is no rush, use the right gear and watch the scenery.

I once took a Ford Granada up Sutton bank with a wobble box on the back and got a round of applause from the folks in the carpark at the top.

Wil we’ve Well Malcolm has took a wobble box up Sutton bank a few years ago we were just pleased we got up!.lol

Does anyone know of a Sat Nav with the setting " scenic but not scary please" That would avoid the steep with hairpins which my sat nav seems to like.

my van is 1993 2.5 Mitsubishi truck base. I have driven up and down very twisty hills 1 in 3 in france and in Republic of Ireland with no problems... i take it steady and sometimes stay in first gear all the way down, without using brakes and let the engine do the braking. i try not to change gear at particularly steep upwards section. like others have said i would get your engine checked out.

Yeah, seems to be the running train of thought.

I'm going to book it in for a service as it's due anyway and ask them to take a look but unless it's a cheap fix I will just be leaving it how it is.

I'll still get the sat nav and be avoiding the likes of Sutton unless I've little other choice, that goes for when I upgrade van also.

i had a problem with loss of power on hills for a week or two and it was a simple and cheap repair - the accelerator cable had stretched (i think) and so not enough fuel was getting to the engine... it made a huge difference after i had a new cable fitted.

Didn't give it a second thought but your post has just reminded me... last year my accelerator cable snapped and a new one was fitted so its definitely something I will check. Thanks
