Someone here may know the reasons for this, I have two tomtoms I have had for years a 701 and a 501, last week one would not find gps signal I swithched to the other one no problem. After about 4 days this one also coud not find satelites. if I reset them sometimes they are ok but if I switch off and on again no gps.
I left one of them switched on today after 2 hours traveling it did find where it was but after a 5 minute break switched off again no gps signal.

It just seems strange to me that both did the same within a few days, is it because we left europe on the 29th of march maybe!!!! I look forward to comments from all the talent out there.

That could well be right ...

Connecting the TomToms for a software update may be the solution.

The day my Tomtom goes down, will be the day I introduce it to the bin! :cool1:

I have a start 25 with trucks, exactly the same happened to me coming back from Spain in April, problem is TomTom have stopped giving updates to Start 25 so am now buggered, I liked the tomtom as the fiat Ducato sat nav does not show the speed.

If you haven't updated it with your PC and Tomtom Home it will not find the satellites, although they do not provide any updates for older models you can still get GPS updates, it is simple to do and free.
I have a few old models that Tomtom said would not work at all and a few that they said would not display the time and date but they put a GPS fix update out just before the deadline and all mine still work as normal now

My Start25 became a start000

But connected it to Laptop using TomTom MyDrive
Agreed to the updates and all is well

The device itself is 5+years old

I have repaired and sold a lot of satnavs over the years and you would be surprised how many I bought for spares or repair that just hadn't been regularly connected to a PC and updated, the older ones that the OP has (701 and 501)use tomtom home not mydrive but the principle is the same, if you don't update they slow down gradually and eventually give up

It was good for me though ;)

This is what I received from Tomtom 3DEBFD5C-3718-4AC0-9887-A4CA876EF932.jpg

The update worked fine. I also received letter from Renault about it, which I thought quite impressive considering that they built the van 8 years ago.

i have 2 no working rite, mite bee me, need looking at,were do i go. thank you, ok pj

I have a nozitec

Almost certainly RF interference, probably from a phone charger, dashcam or just a bad connection where a charger is plugged in. Or perhaps something is blocking the signal. Has anything changed?

Leave the satnav switched on for half an hour before moving it, to let it download all the data again. Might help. Try never to start driving until it gets a fix. Much more difficult if you are moving.

OK, Tomtom is a very poor choice of Satnav (a £40 Nozatec or Xgody is far better) but two shouldn't fail like that. So I'd look for an external cause.

It isn't the GPS rollover: devices that were affected could still get a GPS position fix: they just can't work out the right date and time any more.

I have had a nozitec for years which I use in shed which seems much better than the tomtoms, but I use the tomtoms in car as smaller but thanks for info.

Thanks

Thank you for all your help. I will try all your updates this week some time and report back. Hopefully a nice conclusion to thread.

Thanks to all

All working fine again now after updating both tomtoms although one seemed to have got a bit better before I did for some reason. anyway both ok now thanks to all who have answered my thread.

oh I have also uploaded all the new wildcamping poi's which were well out of date, just the nozitec needs doing now.

as a matter of interest I have had these tomtoms about 12 years, would I buy another, No. tomtom kept wanting me to pay for map updates also when I connect to tomtom home they want to sell me another for £300 cos mine that cost similar is old but they will not upgrade it. they seem very expensive when my 35 quid chinese one does same job if not more.

Anyway thanks again for all the help from this super forum and it's members.

Glad you`re sorted

Connect them to TomTom Home regular and they`ll get the GPS updates although the maps will not be updated, you need to pay for that or buy new :rolleyes2:

Tom Tom are twats. I have a Go which I cannot update. Their website even says there will be problems updating a range of models, including mine. I sought their help by pm via their facebook page. I followed the link they sent me which led to a pop up 'Hi, it's Catherine, how can I help?'. Typed in problem, was asked for phone number so one of the team could call to help me. Caller never said he was not from Tom Tom, but some other bent UK company who was only interested in selling me computer security at £450. Absolute joker. Complained to Tom Tom and they said this link couldn't do this. Really!!!!!!!!!!!!. Well I have records and it did. I am now in the process of making a further complaint. Their conduct is shocking to say the least.
