Securing gas bottles

Hi folks

The photo shows where my gas bottles are stored. There is a collar for each which is tied down with straps on each side.

There are small angled brackets fixed to the floor as can be seen in the picture on the left. The right-hand bottle sits on top of these brackets but even with the straps as tight as I can get them it still moves about. When it moves off the brackets the straps become quite loose.
The left hand bottle sits within the brackets on the base of the section so when the straps are tightened there is very little movement.

The bottles are the same size, the distances between the brackets is greater on the left side. The brackets don't seem to have been moved so I assume this is the way they were designed. Its a Swift Escape 685, 2017 model.

I obviously don't want the bottles moving, especially the right hand one as that could hit the main feed pipe to the van.

I'm thinking of making a wedge from some heavy foam I have to secure the RH bottle better, does anyone have other suggestions how I could secure it?

Thanks

Looks to me like you could feed the straps through the slots at the bottom of the cylinder and then tighten them up.

Straps on the bulkhead with spacers blocking them out so you can tighten without tilting the bottles

My 2 are strapped into crescent shaped retainers but the one at the rear of the gas locker was starting to pull the screws out of the woodwork (presumably when I braked), I had an offcut of wood about 1" thick so I cut it to shape and length and put it on the floor of the locker. It prevents the bottle from trying to move forward and I put better woodscrews into the retaining bracket and it works well.

The white angle brackets are obviously meant to be on the outside of the bottle to stop it moving.

Thats all I have around mine some pieces of that stiff white insulation materiel

Can you not move the white brakits, so the bottle sits inside them.

Hi Folks

Thanks for all of the replies - what a helpfull club I've joined!

I'm a bit concerned about fixing anything to the walls of the compartment. I'll need to check the other sides to see what might be impacted.

All of the suggestions are good so I'm going to change my plan a bit. I'm not sure about the flamability of the foam I have so I need to check that. Basicaly, my plan is to cut a timber base with holes cut to suit the gas bottles and secure fixings for straps which can go up to catch the tops of the bottles. I'm not sure there's enough space for 3 straps per bottle, which would be needed for stability, if not I'll try to fit the fixing straps suggested by mistericeman.

Thanks again everyone.

Why do you have such small bottles? I thought that the ones that are twice the capacity are about the same cost. Or is the space not quite big enough for the next size up?
I used to have a motorhome that officially took 2x6kg bottles.
However, although it wouldn't take 2x11kg, it would just manage 1x6kg and 1x11kg.
So I kept the small bottle just for use when the big one was being replaced.
Nowadays, I'd get a refillable, of course.

That's what came with the van. I've not thought about changing them - I'll need to get some bottle sizes and look at that too.
