Hi
We had an electrical problem the other day and found that 5 amp fuses were dropping out of their holders under the dash.
I just can’t seem to make them stay in.
Does this mean a new unit?

I bought a box of assorted size fuses from ebay and found them to be a loose fit bought a better quality box and all was ok

Witzend may be correct.
I would do as he says and buy a set of branded fuses from a reputable source.
but there’s another possibility.
Sometimes the gap between socket connectors widen slightly when you remove fuses, particularly if you apply side pressure when removing them. I would try a small screwdriver and attempt to bring them closer together. It’s very important that you get a tight fit to avoid arcing. Also make sure that the drive does not contact any metal parts which will be earthed when doing so.
You don’t need a new consumer unit, but if you don’t fancy what I am suggesting go to an auto electrician if the new fuses don’t work.
