PLA is an Italian motorhome manufacturer within the Rapido Group, specialising in budget-friendly yet well-designed motorhomes from its Tuscan factory. Founded by one of the Italian motorhome industry's most experienced figures, PLA combines decades of knowledge with accessible pricing.
The range includes:
The Mister — semi-integrated low-profile models with neat design and excellent value. Available in multiple lengths from 6.99m to 7.39m.
The Happy — family-oriented coachbuilt models offering up to seven berths on Citroën Jumper platforms at very competitive prices.
The Plasy — low-profile and overcab models with various layouts for comfort and practicality.
PLA's philosophy combines practicality with design, technology with craftsmanship, and performance with reliability — reflecting its founder's lifetime of industry experience.
P.L.A. stands for the initials of its founder, Pier Luigi Alinari — a legendary figure in the Italian motorhome industry. Alinari's career spanned decades: he relaunched Caravans International in 1980, co-created the McLouis brand, launched Joint in Spain, and served as Vice President of the SEA Group.
In 2010, at age 75, Alinari founded PLA in Colle Val d'Elsa, Tuscany — in the heart of Italy's 'Caravan Valley'. The company focused on accessible, well-designed motorhomes combining practicality with Italian design.
In 2014, PLA acquired Giottiline. In 2016, both companies were acquired by the Rapido Group, which saw PLA as complementing its Itineo brand in the affordable motorhome segment. PLA produces approximately 1,000 motorhomes per year distributed throughout Europe.
Pier Luigi Alinari passed away on 1 May 2020 at the age of 85, but his legacy lives on in the brand he created.
Founded by an industry legend — Pier Luigi Alinari's decades of experience creating CI, McLouis and Joint informed every aspect of PLA's design and manufacturing approach.
Exceptional value for money — PLA occupies the affordable end of the Italian motorhome market, with family coachbuilts available from remarkably low prices.
Rapido Group backing — since 2016, PLA benefits from one of Europe's most respected motorhome groups' engineering, quality and distribution.
Tuscan manufacturing — built in Italy's motorhome heartland near Siena, PLA brings genuine Italian craftsmanship to the budget segment.
If you want the cheapest Italian motorhome — PLA's Happy range offers family accommodation at some of the lowest prices in the European motorhome market.
If you need a seven-berth family motorhome on a budget — the Happy range's generous berth capacity at accessible prices is hard to beat.
If Rapido Group quality at budget prices appeals — the backing of a premium European group behind affordable pricing.
Very limited UK presence — PLA has minimal UK dealer representation.
Budget-level specification — the most affordable models use materials appropriate to their very competitive price points.
Young brand — founded 2010 with limited long-term reliability data.
Low brand awareness — PLA is virtually unknown in the UK market.
Predominantly LHD — most production is left-hand drive for continental European markets.
Verify UK suitability — confirm gas system, electrical standards and LHD/RHD specification.
Check the base vehicle — on Fiat Ducato: cam belt, clutch, gearbox. On Citroën: service history, turbo.
Conduct thorough damp check — check all walls, windows, doors and rooflights.
Inspect budget-level fittings — entry-level components may show wear. Check hinges, catches and furnishings.
Test all systems — heating, water, fridge, electrical circuits.
PLA provides manufacturer warranty through the Rapido Group. Given the budget positioning, verifying warranty coverage and habitation service history is particularly important.
An independent warranty backed by the RAC is strongly recommended for used PLA purchases.
OakTree Motorhomes offer up to three years of RAC-backed warranty, providing essential protection on a budget motorhome.
When buying a used PLA, look for a dealer that offers an independent warranty backed by a provider like the RAC. This means your warranty remains valid even if the dealer ceases trading. OakTree Motorhomes offer up to three years of RAC-backed warranty, covering the average ownership period.
