Nu Venture is a British boutique manufacturer specialising in small, sophisticated coachbuilt motorhomes designed to drive and park like a car. Hand-built in Wigan for over 30 years, Nu Venture proves that compact dimensions need not compromise on motorhome essentials.
The range includes:
The Nu Rio — the flagship model with walkthrough cab, bathroom with shower, and full kitchen. Available in SD and RD variants from £59,995. Under 6m for easy ferry crossings.
The Nu Rio Micro — the most compact option with end kitchen and washroom without shower. From £56,995, designed for two adults seeking maximum manoeuvrability.
The Panel Vans — customisable panel van conversions in small, medium and large sizes.
All models benefit from bespoke customisation — each vehicle is built to order with individual customer requirements incorporated into the design.
Nu Venture was founded in July 1993 in Wigan, Greater Manchester by Gordon Hulton and Trevor Prescott. Gordon Hulton, a carpenter with experience in the leisure camper sector, established the company to build bespoke, hand-crafted compact motorhomes.
The company has operated from the same street in Wigan for over 30 years, maintaining its identity as a small, family-run manufacturer committed to individual craftsmanship. Every motorhome is hand-drawn in design and built using traditional methods, customised to each customer's requirements.
The flagship Nu Rio design family has been continuously reinvented since its introduction in 1996, with successive generations keeping the design current while maintaining the core philosophy of compact, practical motorhoming.
Nu Venture also produced the innovative Nu Surf — a tiny motorhome based on the Citroën Berlingo that brought motorhome functionality to an everyday-car-sized vehicle.
Car-like dimensions — Nu Venture motorhomes fit in regular parking spaces, navigate narrow country lanes and handle like a car. Under 6m length is ideal for European ferry crossings.
30+ years of compact expertise — continuous refinement of the compact motorhome concept since 1993, with the Nu Rio evolving through multiple generations.
Bespoke hand-built construction — every motorhome is individually designed and crafted in Wigan, with hand-drawn designs and traditional building methods.
Complete motorhome in a small package — proper toilet, shower, Truma gas heating and full kitchen in a vehicle that parks like a car.
If you want the smallest practical motorhome — Nu Venture's compact designs include all essential motorhome features in car-like dimensions.
If you value bespoke construction — every Nu Venture is built to individual order with your specific requirements.
If you're stepping up from a car — the car-like driving experience makes Nu Venture the gentlest introduction to motorhoming.
If fuel economy matters — compact dimensions and lighter weight deliver 28-30 mpg, significantly better than larger motorhomes.
Limited headroom — the roof slopes toward the rear with minimum 1.86m height. Taller occupants will find the space challenging, with door heights of just 1.64m.
No external storage — chocks and hook-up cables must be stored internally as the compact design cannot accommodate external storage.
Limited space for extended trips — the compact dimensions that make city driving easy constrain living space for longer journeys.
Complex bed conversion — converting dinette to sleeping requires rearranging multiple components.
Limited payload — compact chassis means careful weight management is necessary.
Check the base vehicle — Nu Venture uses various platforms including Peugeot, Fiat, Toyota and Citroën. Check according to the specific base vehicle.
Inspect the handcrafted joinery — Nu Venture's carpentry is a key selling point. Check all joints, hinges and fittings for quality.
Test the Truma heating system — verify full operation through a complete heating cycle.
Check the washroom — compact washrooms work hard. Test toilet, basin and shower if fitted.
Verify build documentation — confirm genuine Nu Venture construction and check for bespoke specification details.
Nu Venture provides a 3-year warranty on new motorhomes, along with a buy-back service for hassle-free resale. Factory visits are available by appointment.
For used purchases, verify any remaining warranty directly with the factory in Wigan.
OakTree Motorhomes offer up to three years of RAC-backed warranty for additional protection on compact motorhomes.
When buying a used Nu Venture, look for a dealer that offers an independent warranty backed by a provider like the RAC. This means your warranty remains valid even if the dealer ceases trading. OakTree Motorhomes offer up to three years of RAC-backed warranty, covering the average ownership period.
