LMC is a German manufacturer of caravans, motorhomes and campervans with 70 years of heritage, now part of the Erwin Hymer Group. Known for durable workmanship and innovative technology, LMC offers vehicles across three product areas.

The motorhome and campervan range includes:

The Innovan — compact campervans on Ford and Fiat platforms, with flexible bathroom and kitchen concepts.

The Style Lift — family-focused models with drop-down beds providing flexible sleeping and living arrangements.

LMC is particularly known for its LLT (Long Life Technology) construction, which delivers a 12-year watertightness guarantee — exceptional in the motorhome industry. All models benefit from German precision manufacturing in the Sassenberg factory.

Ownership history

LMC (Lord Münsterland Caravan) has stood for high-quality leisure vehicles Made in Germany for 70 years. In 1955, Heinz Austermann developed the first Knospe caravan in Sassenberg, laying the foundation for what would become LMC.

In 1966, Wilhelm Saure bought Austermann KG and founded Wilhelm Saure KG. By 1974, Karmann Mobil was handling significant production. In 1981, the company was newly founded as LMC Lord Münsterland Caravan GmbH, named after the successful Lord and Münsterland model series.

LMC started producing its first motorhomes in 1986 with the Liberty series. In 1991, LMC was integrated into the Erwin Hymer Group, gaining access to an international sales network. In 2018, a new production plant with state-of-the-art technology doubled production capacity. LMC employs around 700 people and generated €259.6 million in revenue in 2020/21.

Following THOR Industries' acquisition of the Erwin Hymer Group in 2018, LMC is now part of one of the world's largest leisure vehicle groups.

Primarily known for caravans — LMC's motorhome range is smaller and less well-known than its caravan lineup, particularly in the UK.

German market focus — specification and design optimised primarily for the German market.

Lower brand awareness in UK — LMC is not widely known among British motorhome buyers.

When buying a used LMC, look for a dealer that offers an independent warranty backed by a provider like the RAC. This means your warranty remains valid even if the dealer ceases trading. OakTree Motorhomes offer up to three years of RAC-backed warranty, covering the average ownership period.
