About Globecar

Globecar is a premium German van conversion specialist within the Pössl Group, Europe's market-leading panel van converter. Unlike manufacturers that produce van conversions as part of a wider range, Globecar builds exclusively panel van motorhomes — a focused approach that has allowed the company to perfect every aspect of the van conversion over decades.

The range is built on Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer and Citroën Jumper platforms and includes several model lines:

The Campscout — Globecar's most popular model, built on Fiat Ducato. Compact, cleverly designed and available in configurations including the Campscout Revolution, which packs kitchen, bathroom and sleeping into a 6.36m body with the flexibility to add up to four extra berths.

The Globescout — available on standard Fiat Ducato high-top and also on Opel Vivaro/Renault Trafic platforms, offering a more compact option with flexible, customisable interior layouts.

The Summit — Globecar's award-winning range on Peugeot or Fiat platforms. The Summit Prime 600 won recognition in the Caravan and Motorhome Club's Design Awards for best van conversion under 6 metres.

All models feature four belted travel seats and two berths as standard, with particularly noteworthy washroom designs offering choices from compact side cubicles to separate shower/toilet compartments.

Ownership history

Globecar was born in 2004 as a premium sister brand within the Pössl Group. The group's history begins in 1989 when Peter Pössl revolutionised the motorhome market by designing a panel van conversion that combined the practicality of a van with the comfort of a motorhome — creating an entirely new vehicle category.

Based in Ainring, Bavaria, the Pössl Group grew from Peter Pössl's original vision into Europe's market leader for panel van conversions. Peter Pössl retired in 2002, and in 2004 Globecar was launched as a designer series with more premium specification and contemporary styling compared to the core Pössl brand.

The group expanded further with the addition of Clever Vans in 2012 (later becoming the budget-oriented Roadcar brand), creating a portfolio that spans from entry-level to premium van conversions. By 2016, the group was producing 5,100 units per year across the Globecar and Pössl brands.

The Pössl Group's product range now numbers over 30 panel van models on Fiat Ducato and Citroën Jumper platforms, all handmade in the Bavarian factory. The company's mottos — "Das Original" and "Handmade in Germany" — reflect its position as a pioneer and quality leader in the European van conversion market.

What Globecar is known for

Pioneering the panel van conversion market — the Pössl Group created the modern panel van motorhome category in 1989. Many innovations now standard across the van conversion industry originated in Globecar's design studio. This is "Das Original."

Handmade in Germany quality — every Globecar is handmade in the Bavarian factory. The focused production approach — building only van conversions — means specialist expertise in every aspect of the conversion process.

Clever washroom solutions — Globecar's washroom designs are a particular highlight. The range of options from compact side cubicles to centrally located shower trays to separate shower/toilet compartments provides genuine choice that competitors often cannot match in a van footprint.

Award-winning design — the Summit range has won multiple Design Awards from the Caravan and Motorhome Club, validating Globecar's approach to combining compact dimensions with genuine liveability.

Europe's van conversion market leader — as part of the Pössl Group producing 5,000+ units per year, Globecar benefits from massive scale while maintaining handcrafted quality. This combination delivers excellent value.

Why people choose Globecar

If you want a premium van conversion from a specialist — Globecar builds nothing but van conversions. This singular focus means every detail has been refined over decades, and the result is a level of conversion quality that generalist manufacturers rarely achieve.

If washroom design is important — Globecar's range of washroom solutions is exceptionally well thought out. If having a proper shower and toilet in a van conversion matters to you, Globecar likely has the best solution.

If you want German quality in a van conversion — the handmade Bavarian construction delivers genuine German engineering quality in a compact van format. Build quality is consistently praised by owners.

If you want choice of base vehicle — Globecar offers models on Fiat, Peugeot and Citroën platforms, giving flexibility in base vehicle choice.

What to watch out for

Limited UK dealer network — while growing, Globecar's UK representation is smaller than domestic brands. Servicing may require specialist dealers.

Predominantly LHD in the used market — many used Globecar models in the UK are continental imports. Verify RHD specification carefully.

Van conversion space limitations — as panel van conversions, Globecar models have inherent space constraints compared to coachbuilt motorhomes.

Premium pricing for a van conversion — Globecar's premium positioning means prices are higher than budget van converters, though the quality justifies the premium.

Less well-known in the UK — while a market leader in continental Europe, Globecar has lower brand awareness among UK buyers, potentially affecting resale values.

What to check when buying a used Globecar

Verify UK specification — confirm RHD, UK gas system and electrical standards. Many used Globecar models are continental imports.

Check the base vehicle — on Fiat Ducato, standard cam belt, clutch and gearbox checks. On Peugeot/Citroën, check service history and turbo condition.

Inspect the conversion quality — check all furniture fixings, panel joints and electrical connections. Look particularly at the washroom area for any signs of water ingress around the shower tray and plumbing connections.

Conduct damp check — pay particular attention to around windows and any roof-mounted fittings where the van body has been modified.

Test all systems — heating, water, fridge, 12V and 240V circuits. Check leisure battery condition and solar panel output if fitted.

  • Check gas system is UK compatible

Warranty advice

Globecar provides manufacturer warranty through the Pössl Group and its dealer network. When buying used, verify warranty status and ensure habitation services have been maintained.

An independent warranty backed by the RAC is recommended for used Globecar purchases, providing coverage independent of the dealer network.

OakTree Motorhomes offer up to three years of RAC-backed warranty, providing comprehensive peace of mind on a premium van conversion.

Dealer warranty

When buying a used Globecar, look for a dealer that offers an independent warranty backed by a provider like the RAC. This means your warranty remains valid even if the dealer ceases trading. OakTree Motorhomes offer up to three years of RAC-backed warranty, covering the average ownership period.
