About Camper King

Camper King is one of the UK's largest VW Transporter campervan converters, producing over 100 vans per month with nationwide dealer coverage. Specialising exclusively in VW T5, T6, T6.1 and T7 conversions.

Models are named after European destinations:

The Monte Carlo — traditional layout with ¾ width bed, furniture running driver's side, full grill and enhanced roof bed.

The Portofino — LWB-based with wider bed, 3 belted seats, full-sized oven, diesel heating and exterior gas barbecue point.

The Santorini — standard fridge (no oven) with enhanced storage capacity.

The Le Mans — SWB version similar to Santorini.

The St Tropez — similar to Monte Carlo without the gas grill.

Options include 4-6 seat configurations, LWB/SWB choices, integrated fridge-freezers, microwaves and wind-out awnings.

Ownership history

Camper King was incorporated on 8 January 2010, though the founders had been working in the campervan space since around 2003. The company was born from the founder Spencer's personal frustration — he purchased a VW campervan expecting quality but received poor workmanship and inadequate aftercare. This inspired the creation of Camper King to provide a more reliable product.

The company has grown to become one of the UK's largest VW campervan converters, building over 100 vans per month from facilities including headquarters in Warmington near Banbury, production in Kineton, Warwickshire, a bodyshop in Bidford-on-Avon, and a sales site in Newcastle.

Camper King operates through 15 dealerships nationwide and controls the entire build process through its own bodyshop and upholstery operations — a vertically integrated approach that few competitors match at this volume.

What Camper King is known for

High-volume UK production — building over 100 VW campervans per month makes Camper King one of the largest UK converters by production volume.

Lifetime rolling warranty — backed by annual habitation checks, providing ongoing peace of mind throughout ownership.

Vertically integrated manufacturing — in-house bodyshop, upholstery and production controls ensure consistency across the high volume.

15 nationwide dealerships — extensive UK coverage for sales and service that few independent converters can match.

Why people choose Camper King

If you want a VW campervan at competitive pricing — Camper King's volume production enables more accessible pricing than boutique converters.

If nationwide dealer access matters — 15 UK dealerships provide convenient sales and servicing.

If a lifetime warranty appeals — the rolling warranty with annual habitation checks provides ongoing protection.

If you want VW T7 compatibility — Camper King is already offering conversions on the latest VW platform.

What to watch out for

Mixed quality reviews — high production volume has led to inconsistent quality reports, with some owners reporting insulation and finish issues.

Pop-top roof concerns — some reports of clunking sounds, excessive movement and poor fitting on elevating roofs.

After-sales service variability — some owners report disappointing post-purchase support despite good initial sales experience.

Not NCC member — unlike some competitors, Camper King is not a member of the National Caravan Council.

Volume vs. quality trade-off — 100+ vans per month prioritises efficiency which may affect individual build attention.

What to check when buying a used Camper King

Inspect insulation quality — some reports of carpet installed directly over fibreboard panels creating hollow spaces. Tap panels to check.

Check the pop-top roof — operate the mechanism, check for movement, canvas condition and seal quality.

Check the VW base vehicle — full service history, DSG if automatic, timing chain on TSI engines.

Verify habitation check history — the lifetime warranty requires annual habitation checks. Confirm these have been completed.

Pre-purchase checklist
  • Check VW Transporter full service history
  • Check DSG gearbox oil changes if automatic
  • Check timing chain on TSI engines
  • Inspect pop-top roof mechanism
  • Check pop-top canvas condition
  • Check pop-top seals and waterproofing

Warranty advice

Camper King offers a lifetime rolling warranty subject to annual habitation checks. This provides ongoing protection but requires the owner to maintain the check schedule.

For used purchases, verify the habitation check history and confirm warranty transferability.

OakTree Motorhomes offer up to three years of RAC-backed warranty for additional independent protection.

Dealer warranty

When buying a used Camper King, look for a dealer that offers an independent warranty backed by a provider like the RAC. This means your warranty remains valid even if the dealer ceases trading. OakTree Motorhomes offer up to three years of RAC-backed warranty, covering the average ownership period.
