This is the third week without my hymer, first time it’s really let us down, she is getting on but the build quality etc is good.a few weeks back we were in France and had to rush home for a family matter (urgent)
Didn’t hang about at all.anyways the weekend after getting things sorted ou5 we decided to head up north .
Stocked up with provisions, filled with derv ,got two coffees from Starbucks then set off on m8 got to Newbridge at the 40 mile a hour camera and just as we were clearing it bang pop wallop the engine failed
I knew immediately the belt went
Three years and eleven months back I renewed the water pump, tensioner all idlers ,pulleys belts etc
In total 20212 miles covered, gutted I am.i also had fitted genuine fiat parts so it goes to show it can happen to factor or main dealer spares
We are now in the machine shop getting a complete engine overhaul plus new clutch, turbo? And drive shaft seals ,then she should be well again (I hope) I am sitting just now under my gazebo having a few spitfirekentish ales feeling I’m misssing part o the family ,my hymer!think I might be a bit piddly and feeling sorry for her and me
Oops got to go the gaffers just come in

Thats bad news Gordon. Is it an interference type engine? Valve damage etc?

Yeah buckets have broke and the head split where the buckets sit ,she’s only done 108:000 KLM’s
Them engines are normally good for1/4 million miles but hey ho .not the fastest but normally a good work horse .shes paying me back for about to sell 😡

Ouch!! You never know when they'll go. You must have upset her by thinking of changing

It's only an engine, in the great scheme of things you could have had a lot worse news

Sorry to hear your news Gordon re the engine, sounds costly but as we all know it’s only money. Hope your back running soon.

it could have happened in france had you not had to come home...........that probably would have been a worse headache for you.............take care

Exactly as we said the same,it popped about 30 mins from home so she thought about us😡

I reckon possibly the hammer up the road did not help. Lots of stresses and such going on with heat/speed etc?

Anyways, certainly a dull one, I'll post a few pics of our continuing France tour, to cheers you up. No thanks required.

:camper::cheers::cool:

You ain’t gonna get one👍🇫🇷

What a bummer Gordon , hope you get it back soon and also leaves you some pennies in your piggy bank

commiserations......
sadly, an all too familiar tale.
never trust an engine that runs on a rubber band.

Yeah thanks but there’s horror stories out there about 5he noisy ,failing ,timing chains, just your luck me thinks?

Recent 2.2 transit engines (same engine used in the relay and Boxer) seem to be suffering a spate of timing chain and oil pump failures lately. Several on our work fleet have bit the dust and one new replacement engine lasted 2 weeks before it went the same way !

Oil pump

Yeah heard a fair bit about the oil pump failures but also guide probs for the chains to run on giving problems

Hope to get my van in the next five days ,I’m missing it not being parked out front, even just jumping in and going to south queensferry and sitting under the bridges for our tea at the odd Sunday
