You can park anywhere in France?

What does regulated actually mean?

I always assume that it means there is a local bylaw in operation.
It is not unusual to find that parking overnight in streets near popular beaches and resorts is restricted in summer months.

Just came across this.

Who the hell wrote that? Worra load of crap.

There are plenty of places Motorhomes are restricted and banned in France. You will see a lot of those signs in Brittany. Whether they are legal or not is another matter but the police do enforce them. We got moved on twice in Brittany and once on Lake Annecy by the rozzers. Never a good idea to argue with the Gendarmes. We have always found them extremely pleasant but probably because I always do what they say :D

Does this direct camping cars to the designated facilities at Place du General De Gaulle? We have followed this type of directions and have oten found that the designated facilities are better placed than the original Car Park or similar where we had planned to park up. In Cheffois, the village where we had our hovel, there were 3 or 4 Camping Car spaces in the wee square between the church and the Mairie's Office. Took me ages to realise that rue des Hetres was not *that* kind of beach ... :ROFLMAO:

The first time we saw (or maybe took any notice of) a carpark which specifically banned motorhomes was in France, that was 1999
As it was I was hungry, it was lunchtime, and we where heading towards ferry and wasn't sure where else we could stop, so parked up for lunch and was prepared to play the ignorant Englishman if challenged.

I wonder why some lay-bys have picnic tables then.

If there are no picnic tables the French will make some out of anything. Doesn't matter where it is. The French Lunch three hour has to be observed. Central reservation, roundabout, etc. No Ginsters pasties on the move for French lorry drivers!

Actually, a fair bit of it seems about right. However, it's not the police who set restrictions, but usually the mayor of the commune. Some of the info about speed limits si outdated, as many départements have reverted to a 90km/h limit on highways.
A number of mayors have been taken to court over arrêtés that violate the principal of equality; in some instances the motorhoming community has been successful, but in others the mayors have been considered to have complied with legal requirements when introducing restrictions.

Not sure if they can move us on, I have tramadol on prescription, I rarely take it when away in the van but they don't know that.

Yes, it does. It's not often that they're kind enough to do that - just tell you that it's regulated. The restrictions often relate to overnight parking, but may relate to daytime parking as well in tourist areas in particular.

Its not like France don't provide so many great places to park a motorhome. Its the least restrictive country I have been to. There should be no need to flout any restrictions although as said, we have been moved on ourselves a couple of times.

Is that for France only Tom? Any other countries?
Hi Kev,

Do you mean the info relating to restrictions (I was referring specifically to France) or the database, which covers 44 countries, mainly Europe (including UK and Ireland) but also a few in north Africa.
