I have a an email from Nick Oldham with regard to the Yorkshire Dales;

I have seen a series of blogs - including one by Belgian - regarding overnight parking in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The following statement from Jon Avison, Head of Park Management for the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, will, hopefully, clear up any uncertainty.

Overnight occupation of vehicles is prohibited in all National Park Authority-owned car parks.

In terms of buying the appropriate parking ticket for a motor home, the general rule of thumb is that, if a motorhome fits into a standard parking space of approx 4.8ms long by 2.4ms wide, then it will only require a £3.50 ticket. If it takes up a larger area then it will require a £7 ticket. We hope owners will buy the appropriate ticket.

I saw a post on another forum where they had asked the council about motorhomes. Its had to happen I guess but its a shame we did not just keep quiet about it and let them see that motorhomers were not a problem and then ask

Thats the problem - they can't turn a blind eye when the question has been asked.

I think that the response from the Yorkshire Dales NP is only to be expected, most if not all NPAs have the same policy and will not generally turn a blind eye.

However it's not necessarily the case that 'asking the question' is a bad thing. I recently had a series of email exchanges with Exeter City Council Parking Dept and they agreed that limited motorhome parking would be available, for one night stays only, in the large vehicle parking bays at the Matford Park & Ride, off the A379 south of the city. They haven't amended the Parking Regulations but have said that enforcement action will not be taken as long as there is no abuse of the concession.

hmmmmmm

OK, not sure how people will take this and I'm not saying that this is the way to go in most cases - BUT - in some cases, might it be that if you don't ask the question then you can't get the answer NO :eek: Sometimes its a quiet way around things if done on a small scale ;)

BTW Andy C - thank you for all the work you do to promote motorhoming - if I can help by sending the odd letter for you then PM me and I will gladly help :)

Hi Admin,

If you have an email address for the Yorkshire National Park Authority, could you please pass on the following message.

We motorhomers bear no grudges and we will happily give you a wave as we pass through Yorkshire on the way to spend our money elsewhere.

Your double parking fee for larger motorhomes means you have made no provision whatsoever for us.

ps: I shall pass on your car park sites to every member of the travelling community that I meet.:D:D:D:rolleyes:

Fair comment - maybe they will learn in the next few years.

wot expect?

Nasty, narrow minded, backward, inward looking tykes -no touring Yorkshire for me-lots of other places where welcome all over Europeo if Yorkshire can live without me, then i can easily live without Yorkshire! (Like Lancs, tho');)

Just been told Yorkshire is in thrall to CC and other similar big profit making orientated organisations...says it all!
