hi all back from our first trip having had the engine remapped we have gained 4 m.p.g on a 5 ton tag fiat 160 / 192 b.h.p we don't think that's bad and the power is amazing not that i abuse it being retired we are in no rush as anybody will tell you the days get shorter when you reach 60. you no what it's like trying to join m/ways and alike and lorry's try not to let you out now i say eat dirt and put my foot down and I'm gone and not to mention those steep hills no slow lane for me now he! he! . so for us it was money well spent £325 and a guaranteed happy camping . P.S i was an h.g.v driver and i let people out

Begs the question as to why the manufacturers don't have it done in the factory. 4mpg extra is a spectacular decrease in fuel consumption that if applied to all vehicles would just about solve the fuel crisis overnight. Extra power would allow the fitting of smaller engines to give the same performance and allow even better fuel economy.

Is there an age limit to having this done. Can it only be done to modern vehicles, or will it work on an oldie?

hi caspar i think you can check out the ads in m/h mags or google he just plugged into the diagnostic system half an hour and done painless apart from the wallet there is a few who do it i can recommend one if you want all the best George

Perhaps the manufacturers chief design engineers with PhDs in engineering just aren't up to the same standard as the aftermarket brigade!
If the power train is designed for 160 bhp how well does it cope with a 15%+ power increase long term, or perhaps even short term?

i like the way they quote bhp but use flywheel figures but most only ever use a rolling road to check it . they can only get bhp at the wheels and guess the flywheel bhp. be better if they put the engine on a proper dynometer then say what you have .they tell every body they get the same . i know that cant be true worked on plenty of race rally engines to know . but having said that so long as the customer is happy . fit a fuel king filter .put magnets on the fuel line soon need a diesel can as it will be making so many savings the tank will fill up by its self ha ha . cheers alan.

I believe that the fuel pumps are set up so that they show the optimum figures for the emmission tests. These may not be the same as optimum power settings (they're not :) )

So long as they carry out the before and after comparison tests on the same equipment and use the same procedures, then it doesn't matter much really.
Don't magnets on the fuel line work then....just spoilt a dream.

cant quite say but i,v got some on the mitzy and had the same ones on the vwlt and a few before .got them years ago . found them on a car we were breaking so thought well putthem on .did use the magnets and pellets on a vw when un leaded came out but only as an advert . mind we did sell loads . usedf to get them from the factory in torpoint /saltash mine was free. hee hee .

hi byronic tried the magnets first sorry not worth jack sh*t my friend had remapped done 3 years ago with no faults

Are you being serious (except for the very end bit!) What the heck is a fuel king filter and where would you place magnets?

years ago they sold a thing called filter king filters you put in line . saved 10 percent fuel . then fit magnets around the fuel line save 10 percent . fit a fuel pressure regulator .save 10 percent fuel etc . fit enough you save so much you never use any fuel , based on percentages. when you have saved 100percent.
as to bhp the figures are for flywheel bhp. as per the manufacturers, we used to send engines to go on a proper engine dyno to get flywheel bhp. if you use a rolling road it can only give you at the road whheels so they guess the flywheel bhp. using a table but its not accurate at all.
cheers alan.

My Renault Master is available as a 120/140 or 150 bhp (these are the model numbers the actual bhp I think are a bit less mine is the 150 (actually 148)) I think Adria charges about a thousand pounds extra for the 150 model  (I didn't pay that I managed to get it at no extra charge) My question is what are Renault charging for? Is it just a simple case of re-mapping or is there any other differences (apart from a badge on the door saying 150 ) I have talked to another owner of a 140 bhp motorhome who had it re-mapped to 150, is it then the same as mine? I have spoken to a couple of these tuning people including Wow & been told that mine can be boosted to 160 to 180 bhp , personally don't think I need it as I have plenty of power & would be concerned that it would put extra loading on parts maybe not designed for it.

if yo like the renaults take a look at the mascot . they are rear wheel drive and make a lovelly base vehicle . they have really good pay loads as well. worth a look if you think about changing. think they go up to 6,500kg gvw from memory. cheers alan.

After all the ancillaries have been accounted for it's the power that actually hits the roadwheels that's really meaningful,ie net bhp.
Vwalan I was hoping that after I had fitted all the fuel saving aftermarket devices, I could attach the magnets and then have 110% fuel savings, now you suggest fitting all these devices, would only give me a 100% saving.

cant please some people fit two sets and the petrol companies put money in your bank account . damm..my secrets out . never mind soon be summer .hee hee . if you diconect your speedo that as a very bad effect on mpg . dont do any miles but the fuel till goes away. try it .

No I won't be trying 2 sets of magnets. Magnets have no attraction for me.

Ah Ha, Someone has detected the very subtly-expressed cynicism expressed in some of the posts.

You couldn't end up be anything other than cynical when you came across those fuel saving devices, although intially in fairness, you would start with sceptism. However after reading a couple of "independent" reviews invariably there could only be one conclusion. Most of them came out in the fuel crisis of '74 I think.
Necessity became the mother of c**p invention you could say.
