We watched a really great film last night called law abiding citizen, watch it thouroughly enjoyed.

It depends on what they want really.

To take the camper and/or posessions
Give them the keys & walk away alive.
Claim on the insurance.
I'll not fight or die for material possessions.

Hurt me or mine
If there was a real threat to my life when they broke in, I'd fight to the death.

I would smile and offer them a cup of tea. :D

The dogs might take a different approach though.

we seen that also on the tv in our van 2 weeks ago i loved it

dear oh dear you campers are a wild vicious lot!!!!!! no wonder you are not welcome anywhere!!!!!!:p

these poor unfortunates may require your vehicles/belongings to sell for drugs or alcohol,or simply because 'you have and they want' so please give freely.

have none of you seen the tv ads where people deliberately leave doors open, laptops in view, cars unlocked etc.

please be charitable and leave your van unlocked and share with the unfortunates.:)

i thank you.

yup I agree, cup of tea(for me) let them become acquainted with my Alsation.

On a slightly more serious note, if I am on a site I tend to use the silverscreen, when wilding I dont and my pal sits in the co pilot seat normally grumbling at passers by she doesnt like the look of.( which is most people:rolleyes:) Thats her space come bedtime.

An excellent visual deterrent !!!.

I have my big bear for protection, i call him PETE but you call him ZZ ha ha!

For get the shotgun, far too messy in such a small area. Imagine cleaning up after that!

i think it was last year when a couple of travelers tried to gain entry to a lorry drivers cab in the middle of the night, he wounded one and killed the other with a big knife although he was arrested at first he was later set free with a pat on the back to return home a hero !

As far as I am concerned, if someone steps outside of the law to commit a crime then they should forfeit the right to be protected by the same law. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way!

I once met a man who carried a Walther PPK 9mm in his camper. Small, neat, good rapid fire rate, low recoil, and just leaves a small 9mm hole where it is pointed.

There are parts of Europe where guns like this can be had for £50 or so.

I, of course, would never dream of breaking the law in this fashion.

Mate of mine was a roadie and he was on the European Wet Wet Wet tour a few years ago with a couple of guys who were too noisy in the coach they all lived in; he bought an electronic stun gun and he used that on the pair of them to persuade them to behave. It had two settings, on the lowest it would leave them twitching on the floor, on the highest setting it would knock them out. He said they were too frightened to say boo after the first day!! The police unfortunately look upon them the same as firearms. I think that possession of one of these should be legal in your own home for self defence, and that would include the van.

if the wife dident get them (who needs a big snarly dog) :D:eek:then a nice quick blast of anything in a arosol can in the eyes will give you time to sort any intruder out .also if you are sleeping in the area over the cab its not easy for them to get at you, if you do go to attack any one in the van with a weapon if you dont use it first and they take it from you they definatly will

Defending Yourself

This is what Common Law States

"A person may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances in the prevention of crime, or in effecting or assisting in the lawful arrest of offenders or suspected offenders or of persons unlawfully at large."

So in a nutshell " You thought that the person who was in your
Camper Van unlawfully had in his hand a Knife or something similar ".

You picked up the nearest thing to hand which turned out to be
a Baseball Bat which you had used earlier that day playing softball.

You then beat seven bells out of the scroat as you feared for your
own and your families life.

You are of course very sorry to have hurt the intruder and did not
know at the time what you had in your hand.

As said previously you thought he had a knife and was making
threats and moving towards you.

Never Ever say you had the Baseball bat or whatever with you
for your protection.

Honest people need to start fighting dirty.

The above is of course all make believe - Do Not Try This At Home.
