hello everyone, Can anyone tell me if an ordinary household microwave 700w would be ok for a motorhome? or what would you recommend I get and where would I get something suitable ? (can you tell Im new to all this ?) many thanks in advance .

Pat.

I've used a cheap (under £30) 600w 240v micro wave for the last 6 years, via a 1000w inverter or hookup.
The only problems I have is the 3 little plastic wheels under the plate get flat spots (constant vibrations when traveling), so they don't turn properly when in use,
you can buy one without wheels,
I'm thinking of getting a new one with oven and grill, £50-£60+

I just started using a micro oven 650kw rating 240v with 1500kw invertor for toast, heating food etc. with no problem ?? (2x leisure batteries) but the invertor does starting to scream loudly after 25mins or so and I just switch it off. Not normally use the oven for such long period , usually 15/20min for my needs

I think you mean Watt not kilowatt (kw)
a 650w micro wave will use about 7-800watts of power, and up to 1000watts at startup
Is the fan on the inverter working or is it the fan screaming ?, the inverter will get quite warm after 25mins powering the microwave
I fitted a switch to the fan in mine and only switch it on when drawing high power
I use a 240v full size fridge with my inverter so don't need the fan switched on for this.

We have a small 17 litre / 700W on we use on hookup. Just right.

We are on our second 'home' microwave, the last one we left in the van. They have never been a problem, I would say buy the cheapo clockwork timer type - It's a pain resetting clocks etc EVERY time you plug in a touch panel model.

Tesco & Argos used to sell clockwork micro's.

We use a cheap Tesco microwave (think it was around £30) for when we're on hookup - seems fine, although it did trip the supply once on a very low-powered EHU.

I secured it in a cupboard using holes cut out of a piece of marine ply to take the rubber feet.

thanks home microwave it is then

thanks everyone for your advice, I will be out tomorrow and get a cheapo home microwave then, Wilkinsons have one without the clock for £32 so that will do nicely I think.

thank you !
