Just been for a lovely walk round the hills in the Swabische Alb in Southern Germany. Most impressed with the well marked and maintained trails round here. Along the way at the best viewpoints were numerous big comfortable reclining benches. Each was touchingly adorned with little hand knitted woolen decorations, furry creatures and gnomes, snails, ladybirds and suchlike. The refreshing thing about these was absolutely no signs of vandalism, graffiti, burning or damage, even though they had obviously been here quite some time.
How long do you think something like this would remain intact back in Blighty before some nasty feral little scroats got their hands on them? A day, a week, a month??? Would the benches themselves still be there? Would anyone even trust their handiwork to the gentle mercy of the general populous? Am I becoming unduly synical in my dotage?

Try the Schwabisch food. They certainly enjoy their meat dishes especially Pork (Schweine).

We fully agree with your thoughts. We have discovered a small number of 'honesty' features around Scotland and feel the same way about their security if 'those scroats' were aware of their locations.
It is a sad fact and we share your views, I dont think you are being cynical at all. Realistic.
Enjoy them while and where you can?
Thanks for sharing, Growlie

The question is this. Why do we expect the vandilism in the UK and not abroad?

When we had the guest house the European kids were a treat to host. A pure delight. The Brit kids... well.... after having a complete nightmare with one family and getting a horrendous review from them to boot we stopped taking kids. The grand parents were oblivious to the screaming and shouting going on and as we had the temerity to ask them to tone it down with deference to our other guests we were the bad guys...

We dont even enforce our own laws about litter, dog fouling? We are so concerned about offending ethnic minorities they treat the country and it's original citizens with contempt and disregard. Someone breaks into your home and you take suitable and appropriate action to deter them, you are more likely to go to jail than they were for the initial offence??

There are so many instances of us not wishing to offend others that we are regarded as weak and with disregard. Ask any European what the rest of Europe thinks of UK?
It's not complimentary.

Rant over, yes I probably am a racist, homophobic, inconsiderate, foul mouthed, ex oilfield trash bully but I have no illusions either.....

Have a good day anyway, Growlie

They may get left alone, cos the little darlings wouldn't be bothered to walk to inflict damage.

Growlie , I do agree with you that the UK has gone too far in terms of laws that defend the scum of society from prosecution, and the PC brigade have run completely amok, but to also implicate ethnic minorities in your reasoning about the problems of our society is unfair, in my opinion.
I am White British, and having spent the last 5 years in a street with a mixed population of Eastern European and middle Eastern immigrants, plus about 50% White British families, what struck me forcibly and repeatedly was the contrast between the well behaved Eastern European children ( and the visibly higher standard of their parenting), against the often very loud, aggressive, and generally antisocial behaviour of the white British children.
Not all the white British kids were trouble, but a significant minority certainly were, and they dragged others into their mischief and their petty vandalism.
The police visited the street every other week - either because of noise complaints, burglary, vandalism, and a few times I think in pursuit of wanted scrotes who were in the houses of the local scrotes.
At weekends, gangs of white lads would circle the street junctions on bikes, intimidating and hassling passing pedestrians.
I'm now living in a street where 75% of residents are of Asian origin, and to be honest I feel much much safer from vandalism and casual violence here than I did in any predominantly white street I can remember.
If our society has a problem with antisocial behaviour and the increasing number of toxic, violent and lawless scrotes, it is the ethnic minorities which in my own experience have provided a haven of normality and civilised behaviour in areas which might otherwise become an urban wasteland.
I would much rather live in a street of Poles, Rumanians and Asians than the lazy, ignorant and aggressive white people I have lived around recently.
Ethnic minorities seem to still know how to raise children to be responsible and respectful and decent citizens- and that is something which so many white parents have simply lost.

We can’t have police officers on every footpath - if ignorant people choose to leave their dog’s mess on the ground that doesn’t mean that wider society is happy about it.

We are so concerned about offending ethnic minorities they treat the country and it's original citizens with contempt and disregard.

I probably should declare an interest here - my family came over from Africa originally and they had a very difficult time of it, although racism was not as prevalent in this country as it seems to be today.
Mind you that was between 10,000 and 40,000 years ago.

Not really, since Tony Martin murdered a sixteen year old leaving his property by shooting him in the back with a shotgun after laying in wait there have been a number of clarifications of what a householder is allowed to do in defence of himself and his home, particularly what is ‘disproportionate’.

There are so many instances of us not wishing to offend others..

I can only think that your part of Perthshire is much more genteel than the arse of England where I live - people around here are more than happy to offend others!

You're obviously cross. I bet you're a sweety really.

:)

I have had many close encounters with woodland creatures.

Unfortunately it mostly entailed removing their dead bodies from a Whippets mouth. :(
