Just been for a lovely walk round the hills in the Swabische Alb in Southern Germany. Most impressed with the well marked and maintained trails round here. Along the way at the best viewpoints were numerous big comfortable reclining benches. Each was touchingly adorned with little hand knitted woolen decorations, furry creatures and gnomes, snails, ladybirds and suchlike. The refreshing thing about these was absolutely no signs of vandalism, graffiti, burning or damage, even though they had obviously been here quite some time.
How long do you think something like this would remain intact back in Blighty before some nasty feral little scroats got their hands on them? A day, a week, a month??? Would the benches themselves still be there? Would anyone even trust their handiwork to the gentle mercy of the general populous? Am I becoming unduly synical in my dotage?
