Woman's Logic or Thrifty???

OK, so here it is.


My newest way to spend / save money (now that is woman's logic) is to buy a 1500w (max output 3000w) inverter so that I can run my 1200w hair dryer every couple of days whilst wild camping (if you knew me you would see it is a necessity), at a cost of circa £100 for the unit. :eek: :eek: :eek:

Logic
Here's the logic bit I hope you will comment on (please don't beat me up too much). The only reason we would go onto a site is so that I could use the shower and hair dryer facility (plug socket). We have no other interest in visiting a site - unless of course it was to meet up with some of you lovely people or it was a luxury site with spa etc.

Saving
We are travelling to Ireland next week for 10 days and intend to wild camp the whole time if we get the inverter - therefore potentially saving money as it costs around 20euro plus per night from what I have found from my research. We also intend to take the two weeks at Christmas / New Year wild camping by which time I think we will have recouped the cost of the unit by not having to use sites. :D :D :D.

Well that's my theory / logic :eek: :p :eek:

Any comments :D

...and you`d save on heating bills during Xmas/New Year :)

Personally, I`d shave my head. Better still, be a bloke and for a lot of us it happens naturally :D
 
I bought a 12 volt hairdryer--whilst it doesn't get as hot as the one at home it does the trick just takes a bit longer--total cost £12
I used my womans logic recently in france-we stayed at a free aire situated in front on a wine cave (fab spot with toilet, water, waste disposal, picnic benches and oh yes--great wine!) I happily spent 40 euros on wine in the cave the next morning after all it was half price-I would have spent 20 euros on a camp site!!!
 
Hmmm, depending on what hair style you want to achieve, there are a range of hair care gadgets that can be run from gas cartridges: straightners, curling tongs, hot brushes, etc. I've never used them myself, as I'm 'frizzy', so can't get heat anywhere near my hair, but I have friends who swear by them!

Hi ladies..no offence to you guys, but this 'hair thingy' is definitely a woman thing!. I found out a long time ago, that if I wanted to keep my hair looking good, and camp without electric, I needed to have a shortish hairsyle, that can live with out a hairdryer/ straightners. I have got 12v hairdryer, but it takes forever, and canes the battery. I find if I let my hair dry naturally untill almost dry, I can use my gas hot brush/ tongues to tame the outer layers. Then I use a 'gentle' styling gel to finish.
My hair is very thick, but I'm happy with the results of this method...I understand that everyone's hair is different...but this has got to be worth a try!!

You may need to factor in the cost of an additional battery. A 1200w hairdryer via an inverter will fast run down a battery.

Having said that my wife's hairdryer got a lot of use in autumn attached to a old hoover pipe to warm the duvet :D The bedding used to be stored in an uninsulated locker over the cab and when we dragged it out at bedtime it was always cold compared to the inside temp of the van. A 3min blast with the pipe between the covers ..lovely:)

Hi Jackie - the unfortunate thing is is my hair is really fine so even getting away with only blasting some volume in to it every other day leaves me with one day of hair misery :rolleyes:

Hi Pipps & Co - got a 12v hair dryer but doesn't really do anything - love the logic re the wine :D

A bit too pricey :( I think as £345 on Sqeebay for the larger wattage one we would need.

:eek: This is best suggestion so far :D - only thing is - we've got a 1981 Bedford coachbuilt with a 4-speed gear box that doesn't go quite that fast :eek:

We could try it on a long down hill stretch though :D :p :D

No need to shave it, but get a shorter style and you wont need so much power. If you need motivation to change your style just put it down to fashion :p

We love it :D. The layout is ideal for us :cool:

As far as going slow goes, we now get to see the places we're passing through, especially as we try to avoid motorways :p

Personally, I preferred the one with the Inglenook fireplace and Georgian Drawing room.

I am going to be perfectly serious here. A very rare event.

I have the highest respect (and jealousy of) people like yourselves who put in all of the time and effort to bring these vans back to top class condition. Without you, the world would be a poorer place.

I am looking forward to meeting people like yourselves and the dedicated self builders around the place.

ps: I am in the process of buying another van but for a long time I had my eye on the Gateshead Council Mobile Library. Sadly, its not for sale yet. 30 feet long and a bit like an American RV, with some windows and extra features fitted. Now there`s a project for somebody.

We can do a good 55 with no probs (unless its uphill :eek: :D) 60ish flat out so we do overtake some vehicles :rolleyes:
