Hi everyone, great site very helpfull, been looking at winter screen covers, silver screens etc, all seem a bit pricey (and i am a tight git )even on ebay. Had an idea to make my own from a water proof car cover and an old quilt inner has anyone tried this or got any other idea's. SWMBO keeps telling me to just buy some, like thats goin to happen.
whoops put this in the wrong place can't move it DOH!

Hi there,

I have seen posts where people have bought the insulation material from DIY stores, cut them to shape, edged them and fitted suckers.

If you are reasonably handy it should not be too difficult but being a man, what do I know?

Have you tried here

Silver Products

We got our external screens for Christmas from very generous daughter.

Wrapped our van up during the very cold spell to try & keep background heating in. Worked a treat & no condensation on inside, unlike our previous internal screens.

Obviously, if wildcamping, internal screens would be safer (if have to move quickly in middle of night!).

Try bubble wrap instead, it doesn't absorb water.;)

Is it worth the bother, nice van and a duvet over the windows!

We have a selection around the £80 mark, less your wild campers discount:)

Hi Lynnian,

Don't know where you live but I got a healthy discount from Silver Screens when I collected mine from their workshop and paid in cash.

They do work and therefore are good value.

I bought mine from silver products. £80 is not bad considering the amount of material involved. It's a quite a big area to cover windscreens and side windows on a van, They are also fitted with velcro joins so you can adjust or readjust them as necessary to get a snug fit. For the amount of work making them and the materials involved I don't think it's worth doing yourself.

I made a set for my last van (VW T4) from a roll of insulation I bought from Wickes ( the silver foil lined bubble wrap type) edged it with plastic tape (the type used for making lines on factory floors) and used self adhesive velcro discs to attach them - worked great !:D
