Looks like I now need a new windscreen, there is a repair on the windscreen the previous owner had done (looks like a stone chip). It was done by Autoglass, there lifetime guarantee only covers the the person who had it done. It looks like the resin they put in is coming out & is now sticking out a bit. When I spoke to them they said if it has previously had a repair they won't do it again & the windscreen will have to be replaced. Wondering how long it will take them to get a new windscreen to fit a Rapido A class.
Had thought about just leaving it but notice the wiper is catching the raised bit & not clearing properly.

If you can pull the resin out there's no reason why they can't repair it again I don't think

Thats what I would have thought but both companies I called said they won't repair a windscreen in the same place as it is likely to crack. It seems a waste & will cost me £75 excess.

Have similar problem with our old Hymer a repair has been hit in exactly the same spot again but they say it can't be repaired if its already been done once. Although ours isn't sticking out it is right in the drivers viewing area so will be interested when it goes for its mot in a couple of months time.:bow::bow:

As a temporary fix for the wipers catching it cant you slice the protruding bit off with a new Stanley knife blade or similar tool, and i wonder if all the resin came out when you pulled it out would the companies know it had been repaired before?

I don't trust the risen fix I always go for a new windscreen but my excess is only £50 and i won't compromise on safety .

You could repair the chip yourself with a windscreen chip repair kit (eg Loctite). Ebay list various brands. Make sure you wash and pick out any debris first then dry gently with hairdryer, try not to puncture the middle plastic layer.
May just work and if not in the MOT failure zone doesn't have to be perfect.

After quite a few phone calls, (bad weather also caused delays in anybody looking at the windscreen) I've been told it has to be a new screen. From the telephone call toady it seems the only place to get one from is Rapido at a cost of over £3000 :scared: luckily I only have to pay the £75 excess with Saga. It will still take 10 to 14 days to get the windscreen then I'll have to arrange for them to fix it.

At long last they seem to have a windscreen for my van, called today to arrange fitting tomorrow. Apparently the first windscreen that was delivered arrived broken. At over £3k time it's costing quite bit for something I consider could be repaired but I'm no expert.

2 guys arrived at the expected time, both of them were from Poland (living in Manchester now) took them over 3 hours to get the old screen out & fit the new one. Watching them it was a real struggle getting it in. While packing the van this morning the wife noticed the inside of the screen had water on it, the water had leaked in through the rubber seal. Called the company & said they would send somebody within the hour. an hour later they called to say they had broken down about mile away from me. Took them another 2 hours before they got there & they have now sealed all around the screen. Hopefully that will be the end of it, be glad if I never have to have another windscreen fitted.

I am not looking forward to a windscreen replacement when it is needed either... I also have an A class with huge windscreen, and have been informed that it will cost £2500 to replace :scared:
Also, as you have pointed out, there is the time required to source and fit the screen.
What happens when you get a broken windscreen abroad, many miles from home? :(

there is alot to be said for using the original vehicle front end .
i,m glad i have been using trucks for years . most can be bought for about a 100quid . last one my mate had for his daf 45 was 75 quid . he slipped the windscreen supplier lads 20 quid and they fitted it . ideal .
my vw lt50 last time i bought one in morocco was about 55 quid . even better . thats for new ,

You can't beat the Neisman Bischoff model with the massive windscreen though, it was a "very" cheap screen to remove. Only needed an emergency stop and the screen carried on motoring!! So I was told by a couple of N+B owners. Anybodys guess how much to replace the thing.
And plenty of examples encountered overseas, of M/Homers waiting 6 weeks plus for custom screens.... even popular makes Hymer for example.

If it is within the drivers viewing area it will be a fail, not allowed to do any repairs in that area.

You can repair within Zone A drivers viewing area. You can also have 10mm chip. In fact if the repair is up to 40mm it will pass so long as it is done well enough so as to be nearly invisible. Maybe things have changed with new 2013 rules in which case ignore all I've written.

The reason windscreen repairers do not like to repair a previously repaired chip I believe is because it's difficult to remove the remaining bits of acrylic/debris and the likelyhood of an air pocket causing distortion.
