Our wind out awning has developed a small tear on one of the edges near the front. Has anyone experienced this and if so can I ask what you did to repair it?

Failing that has anyone come across anything to repair it or have any ideas which might work?

I did think to sew it with strong cord but am open to suggestions.

Thanks

Strangely I was looking at the Temu link which Graham (@Wooie1958) posted earlier and came across this;

It's supplied in 3 colours but not a great match for your awning. You may find a better match elsewhere.

I cant get in on that link....

Try Graham's link in this thread;

It should be the first item.

Don’t want to disappoint but it looks like it may continue to rip as I expanded the photo it looks weak all the way along

When I was a tent camper, Tenacious tape was what I used to repair rips. Apply it to both sides, with the corners rounded off to avoid the corners catching
I think this is what you are talking about and I have used it for years.
Its really good and easy to use.

Two thoughts

a) This is worth a read and might get you thinking wider

b) Looking at location of the rip it could be worth shortening the awning (Size doesn't matter!) and refixing the end onto the roof.

Great idea, it doesn’t look too difficult to do either

There is a manufacturers seam/join all along the awning which the tear is on hence I thought it might be best to try and sew it to take the strain off the other end of the tear and then perhaps tape it.

a really good length of waterproof Duct tape wrapped over the top and underneath the rip
(or "duck tape" as it is commonly called nowadays)
similar problem a few years ago and I replace the tape every year.. cheaper than a new awning..

Hi, you can buy clear repair patches from the awning manufacturers. I just recently had to repair our Thule wind out awning after a hail storm in France caused 3 breakthrough holes. The patches can be cut down if required but the patches are super sticky, and stick to scissors when cutting and the surface of the awning needs to be properly cleaned so that the glue has a fair chance of bonding to the fabric. The patches are not cheap, but you get 3 in the pack. Once applied, the awning should be wound in and left so the glue can set. They are hard to see once they are applied.

Are you absolutely sure you didnt take that picture on Sunday of my awning at Donington Park?

On curtain side trailers they hot weld them up there no one will see it.

I've gone with the sewing and patch option. The Fiamma patch kit has arrived and I'm just waiting for the sewing kit to arrive now. It's a kit with strong needles/thread for sewing leather so hopefully will be OK.
