Hi Folks
We are in Taunton tonight & are planning on heading to York tomorrow and are looking for any wilding sites you could recommend, our internet access is limited as our dongle is being temperamental so unable to check the downloadable sites.
I have seen the thread for the Flag & Whistle on Huntington Rd but was wondering if there were any more.
Thanks so much

A169 south of flamingoland three or four good laybys set back from the road

Hi canals does the 169 not join the a64 just south of flamingoland? I know we turned off the 64 coming from York to the left signed pickering and flamingoland and found the laybys on the poi maybe I have the wrong rd number ?

If going to Malton, then a good night can be had by Eden Camp whish is signed on main road.
For York I think the best bloke to that to is Rubber Tramp. p.m. him, he wont mind.

Yes it does - I was just clarifying the location 'cos I'd never heard of Flamingo Land :)

You could try the business park off Holgate Road (YO26 4GB). Once people go home there plenty of places on the road through the park. Best end is near NR Yard. About 15 mins walk into city centre.

york - Google Maps .......Huntington Road

This is the closest free parking to the city centre that I've ever found. Get there after six pm and you'll find plenty of space. It could be a bit noisy for an overnight stop though as there is a lot of traffic. The A19 layby that is (or used to be) on the POI's is a bit of a dogging spot now. But if you're desperate....and I have been.....Any of the industrial sites in the city have plenty of quiet roadside parking, they are all well signposted, just get there in the evening and leave early. Campsites in the area are very expensive and often full, in my experience.

There is also a pub at Osbaldwick, Derwent Arms. Field behind pub is used for campers and regular bus service into CC from outside pub. Not sure how much it is.

If you mean the one between Rawcliffe and Skelton, i went by it today and it's closed, looks like they are using it as roadworks depot.

Hi
We are home now but we stayed at the Flag & Whistle on Huntington Road on the Wed night thanks to Paul who owns the pub and then we stayed at the layby on the A59 towards A1 junction & Harrogate

YO26 4GB - Google Maps
(hope the link works)

This was full of trucks which we thought would be okay but as it started to get dark there was lots of comings & goings with cars driving up and down for a while as if they were looking for someone in particular, but it did settle down & we got a sleep.

Thanks to everyone for your help xx

stayed there a few times and as you said quite a lot of cruising up and down, but it does eventually quieten down. not a good place if you are a light sleeper though as many of the waggons set off really early.
