Wilders we have a problem

Hi I need some advise,

I'll start with my head hung in shame we are just back from a trip to Devon (visit to 77 yr old Father) and a few days in Wales all done on and yes I'll wash my mouth out Camp sites sorry.

What I need help with is we have a leak (Not the veg).

The layout of the motorhome is it has a mid wash room just behind the driver seat. We think the leak is coming from the hand basin but before my other half starts in with a screw driver undoing who knows what:scared: I need some advice. What should we try first? Should it be left to a professional? Has anyone a better idea?

There's no puddle just wet carpet and dog bed, the water/damp seems to be seeping under the wall of the wash room at a corner. My worry is it will damage the wall if we can't sort it, we have drained down the water and stopped using the basin as soon as we noticed the damp.

Anyone with any ideas or a contact number for a professional in the Leeds/Harrogate area, we need to sort it as we are off wilding:cool1: at the end of August.

Many thanks
Lynda

Hi firstly can you determine if its clean water (no smell no scumm or soap )or is it waste water .if there is a way to get at the base of the sink without doing damage then have a look and see if its an obviouse fault
if not then best to find a bloke who can sort it without doing undue damage
MOS

Thanks

MOS,
Thanks for that, I think its clean water. I'll have a look under the sink but I think it's a full moulded unit without much access.
Time to call the professionals I think.
Many thanks again

I have recently had a leak from the push fit connector on the water feed to the hot tap.
As it was a very small leak hard to find so i cut a tea towel in pieces and wrapped around the connections and checked after use. They are quite easy to remove a fit.
This may sound obvious turn your water pump off when not in use.

Best of luck

Rob

Hi Lynda, Are you realy sure the dog or the other half has become incontinent?:):):)

Does the pump keep operating periodically? If so I'd guess that its on the pressurised side side of the plumbing.

Is the pump in the same area as the shower?

As you say it's only damp, let it dry out then fill with some water. Don't turn the pump on and wait. Is it getting wetter? If it is then there's a leak on the low pressure side.

If not, turn the pump on and wait, does the pump operate occasionally? if it does and the floor gets damp then it's the high pressure side.If you can raise the van so that the area that was damp is lowest ramps, jack etc.

If the pump isnt operating and it's not damp, run some water for a while, if its damp then it's the waste.

If it still isn't damp ......................bugger, I've run out of options!!

Shame it didn't happen in Wales, you could have detoured via Old Colwyn. Never mind.

Hi a friend of mine have similar layout and same problem turned out to be he sink tap leaking apparently reasonably simple job. but he left it too long , moister soaked up woodwork (veneer started to peel ) cost over £1000 to put right . Dont leave it to long. Terry (Piglets Pilot)

Thanks Pete

Pete Hi
Thank you for all the advice, the pump is under the seat and doesn't keep running. We a sure its waste. Just waiting for things to dry out then we'll have another look.
Can't believe it we passed your area yesterday tea time. Oh well.
Thanks again I'll let you know the outcome
Lynda

Thank Terry

We are drying the area out and hope the water hasn't damaged the wood.
We will check the pipe to the tap if we can get to it.
Thanks again Lynda

Be aware of how most water systems work in motorhomes / caravans. They usually have one pump that is operated once any of the taps are turned on (some detecting water pressure drop, others from microswitches from each tap). Eaither way, if your leak is from in split in the pipe before the tap, any operation of any of the taps will cause water to come out of the split. Try to see if you can get access to the pipes from under the sink. You might find that all it needs is an inch cutting off the pipe at the tap joint and re connecting.

Firstly if this a clean water leak periodic running of the water pump when there is no demand may give you a clue. I had a similar problem in our van which sounds as though it has a layout like yours. In my case, the pipe had come off the sink drain, simple fix. |It came about when I was too enthusiastically packing stuff into the under sink cupboard.

Tco.

What Tco says is correct, listen for the pump coming on when no taps are in use.

Are you 100% sure the water is not coming in from outside? Are you sure the water is not just from splashing while washing going down the back of the sink?

Dry toilet roll wrapped round any suspect pipework will reveal any wet patches.
