Just returned from a two week trip to Ireland. Since joining earlier this year have found the site really useful for stopovers etc. Thought we would share some of our finds with you:
Just past/ before Rosslare: Kilmore Quay, a small fishing village with shop and a couple of seafood cafes/ restaurants. Vans park up by the side of the harbour/ play area. Pleasant and handy for overnight stay before or after ferry from Rosslare.
On the R675 (Coppercoast Road) – large parking bay opposite Ballyvooney Cove – a pretty cove with picnic area, close to Stradbally (where it looked possible to also overnight).
On R591 – Galley Cove car park with Beach access to both sides is a lovely spot frequented by motorhomes, although there is a sign stating no camping we had no trouble and stopped a few nights. Crookhaven is aprox 2km walk – a lovely village with several pubs, eateries and boats! Barley Cove is also near by – generally a larger beach, we spotted people staying over near here as well.
On the Beara Peninsulla you can park up in the dunes at Allhies (R575 past Castletown Bearhaven). Village was lively when we were there – some kind of week long festival with Pig racing and music, however, area was nothing special and a bit tatty, Ok for a stopover after a long drive!
Dingle Penisula – Inch Strand. Here you can park up on this very long beach and sleep to the sound of the Atlantics waves. You just need to make sure that you park above the high tide mark and on the hard sand away from the dunes. Two bars/ cafes within walking distance.
Brandon Bay area – plenty of places to pull up – just need to drive down to parking areas by the beach. There are also some places past Castlegregory towards Fahamore.
Slea Head - driving towards Slea head from dingle aare many spots where vans pull over for the night.
Hope thats helpful.
