Last week saw 3 nights away. A combination of work, pleasure and visiting the oldies. In January we joined CC&C for a year to see if it was of any benefit, so spent 2 nights (we got a free one when we joined) on a very pleasant site in Moffat but it was a site:mad:
On our way home we stopped near Pitlochry above the shore of L Tummel:D What a difference...................:D:D
To date, with nearly two years of motorhoming behind us, we have only spent 5 nights on a site (the other 3 were another offer in the autumn). I really don't imagine we will make use of the club, unless we can get some cheap ferry prices for the continent in the autumn.
Most of our nights out are snatched between a busy summer schedule of work and are within 1=2 hours of home. But the Highlands are beautiful, we watch the weather forecast, and if necessary the midge forecast and just set off:p:p
THIS is what a motorhome is all about:) Although it would be better if there was no work:D However the mountains will survive longer than our jobs , ................ and I suppose our motorhomes and, more's the pity, us:eek:

Did you tell your insurance that you are a C+CC member? It gets a big discount, about £30 if I remember correctly, with Safeguard.

Being a member of the C&CC also brings the benefit of the DA and special interest section system where rallies or meets are organised for the members by the members. It can be a very much cheaper alternative to using the costly sites. The venues can differ from a field to a full facillity site usually much cheaper!!
Dont get me wrong I love wild camping and being in Scotland offers wonderful opportunities for just that.
You also get a social get-together where most people are very helpful and full of knowledge...they have already made the mistakes you have still to.
A bit like a wild camping meet!!!!!!
Dont discount the club on the basis of their sites...try your local DA or Motorcaravan Section for a nearby meet and see.
I am not touting for the club but do have an interest in the Scottish Area MCS but WILL never give up wilding...it is my beautiful country and my right!!!

That is a very useful posting from champstar and good advice for anyone.

I fully intend to try and fit in some of the CC and C&CC meets and holiday sites as far as possible this year.

The monthly magazine has all of the info for the year in them. For instance, there are DA meets at Whitby (3, I think), Southport, Blackpool, Scarborough, Bridlington etc.

The cost is very low and worth the fact that you know you will not be moved on in the middle of the night.:D

The scottish MCS is holding a THS for 2 weeks just north of Oban at Benderloch..check the the club magazine for details.....Hopefully we will be there as we are stewarding!!!!

I occasionally use C&CC sites when I need a shower but formal campsites are a last resort. Another inconvience is they're not open all year so, if dependent on sites, I wouldn't now be overlooking the sea for the night, completely alone with a beach to myself enjoying complete freedom (and flexibility). This is the life - but it's COLD!!!

Thanks for this and the dates for the Oban THS
Our problem is that we are fairly restricted with the seasonal nursery business - March to September. This means that weekend meets are out during the summer, which is why I am trying to encourage a gathering or two here:D However you do say that the Barcaldine site will be open for 2 weeks, so could we arrive late on a Monday night and stay to the Wed am?

If you are away a while ( we are planning 3 weeks inthe highlands this July), we'd need to stay on site for a few nights-if nothing more than to access the washing machines etc. We are members of the CC and we use their sites as we feel they are good value for money.

We are booked into the one in the centre of York over easter-not cheap!! But idea for us as we'll have my stepson (13) with us, and would consider wilding with him-he would drive us crazy.

Horses for courses.

We are going rallying with the CC (Durham) club to the "Tall Ships" Rally, in August. My blood runs cold at the thought of "rallying" but I may well be surprised? (not sure its my cuppa tea) Hell it's a fiver a night and close to the action. We are from that part of the world but no one has a driveway that we can park up on.

Note self-alcohol and lots of it!

The thing about rallying with the C&CC is that you can take part if you want or just come and do your own thing for the cheap camping!!!
Not a member of the CC so never tried their rallies but have heard things!!! not my cup of tea but then I should not judge until I have tried.
